RDRHXD860 - old TV help needed
Offred
19-06-2007
I've just purchased the above and am having a bit of a problem.

I have an old AKAI TV (single scart connection at the back) and apparently only one AV channel), a standard SKY box and now the shiny new DVD recorder.

I use the 'Input select button' to choose L3 to record a SKY channel and press the TV/DVD button on the remote to watch terrestrial TV via (presumably) the external aerial signal to my TV.

If I set L1, I can record, say BBC1, on the 860, press TV/DVD on the remote and watch another 'terrestrial' station on the TV.

What I don't seem to be able to do is watch SKY and record a 'terrestrial' station, either via the external aerial or digital.

Is this just a failure because of the age of my TV and the lack of scart connections? Would a scart adapter help? If I bought a new TV with a digital tuner, e.g. Sony Bravia 32" would this solve the problem, or am I doomed to never recording a 'terrestrial' channel while watching SKY?

Apologies if this has been asked before.

Doesn't the Sony have an internal tuner?, you record terrestrially off it's own tuner - nothing to do with either the TV or SCART.

Yes, the sony has an integrated digital tuner, but as far as I can see I can only have one input source selected at any one time, i.e. either the digital TV tuner or Line 1 for terrestrial and Line 3 for SKY. But I'm more than happy to be corrected.

Currently line 1 goes from the 860 to the TV - a scart goes from the SKY box to to Line 3 input on the recorder and another scart goes from the second scart on the SKY box to an AV sender to transmit the picture to another room as and when I want it.

To be honest, I've had the scarts in and out and switched lines so often that I'm losing the will to live!

Right, I see what you mean now - connect the TV to the TV SCART on the Sky box, and the Sony to the VCR SCART on the Sky box - as the instructions for the Sky box show!

Hi

You can only set up one source at a time.

You need a TV with 2 scart inputs or a splitter with a switch and connect as follows:

Sky box VCR out to Line 3 in on the 860
860 line 1 to TV (via splitter or new TV)
Sky TV out put to TV (via splitter or new TV)

Presumably a splitter means that I have to physically switch it over to access the sources

(I used to have to do this with my cable connection on NTL - it just meant - lazy sod that I am - I couldn't be bothered to get up and switch over so I didn't watch the channels affected)

A new TV is looking more tempting all the time. I will try Nigels suggestion first though!
