I just watched 'The 7 Ages of Rock' on TV and had tears in my eyes for Kurt Cobain. When I actually found out he died, I was in work and had to go to the bathroom and actualy cry. The rest of the day people thought my dog had died He was a guy I could relate to and along with Kurt I think 'Teen Spirit' sucks balls.

An absolute legend who changed the face of rock music. As Dave Grohl said 'If there was one thing I could change it would be that Kurt Cobain was still alive'.

That's a nice thing to say Adam The only good thing that come from Kurt's death are the Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl is a big damn hero to me. It also pisses me right off when people just say 'he was just a heroin addict'. The poor man was a tortured soul and utterly alone. All he wanted to do was create music and the sad thing is that he became everything he hated. Kurt and Nirvana helped me understand the world better.

It took me right back tonight the programme - I remember hearing it on MTV News and being absolutely floored . Still shocking now that such a massively talented guy went just then, like that.....sad...but the MTV Unplugged album is superb - was also reminded of that tonight.

It will be on again tomorrow I think. Or it will probably show up on torrent somewhere. It was the best of the series so far although I'm a little dissapointed it mainly focused on Nirvana and REM and did little for the other alternative bands for the period.

Yeh I had a lump in my throat and I was welling up I love Dave Grohl and he has never had a bad word to say about Kurt Cobain. Dave always says that The Foos will never play a Nirvana song because he has too much respect for Kurt and he feels those songs are to be sung by Kurt and nobody else. Incidently I went to see the Foos last year at Manchester Cricket ground. They blew me away probably the best gig I have ever been to and I have been to a lot of gigs.

I was genuinely saddened at his death too. He was obviously a talented young man but is he a legend for just dying young? So, just how or in what way did he change the face of rock music?

I was a little bit too young to be aware of his death when it happened.
But I love the music that Nirvana made and watching that documentary last night made me so sad. He was loved by so many people. Such a shame he couldn't be reached

Kurt was a guy who had a crippling stomach illness and also suffered from depression. He used Heroin as it relieved the pain of both and will probably be remembered by a lot of people as a drug addict, yet he was just another tortured genius. Who knows what he would have done if he'd stayed alive, but the raw power and emotion of the Unplugged session I think gives an idea of what he could have become.

I thought that accoustic version of a Leadbelly song at the end was absolutely electrifying and it brought a tear to my eye.

As you say Vic he was a tortured genius.

I would have liked to have seen more of Pearl Jam though.

It's that sigh at the end that gets me.

I've got goosebumps just thinking about it.

I'm a far bigger fan of the Foos then I ever was of Nirvana. I thought they were ok but that was it and have never understood the adulation thrown their way.

Either way it's good to have a decent discussion thread that doesn't involve who do you want to make out with or the bloody kitten club.

I was in school when I found out Kurt Cobain had died. At the time I didn't really understand the impact of it as I wasn't into music much. As the years went by & the more music I listened to, I came to understand the influence of Nirvana on todays music.

I went to Seattle a couple of years ago & stood outside Kurt & Courtneys' house. It was the strangest feeling, knowing what had happened there. An experience I will never forget.

kurt is a f'in legend, Unplugged on mTV was the dogs!!!

When i hear a nirvana track i just think of kurt and the tragic way he passed on. but all those tracks still feel fresh and nobody will ever come close to producing music like that.

PS. I don't think kurt killed himself, rumours since his death have pointed to a female hiring someone to kill him.

Half of me is hugely sad, the other half angry that he didn't just walk away from the 'machine'... or am I being stupid / naive? Whatever, it remains a sad loss. Importantly we lost a great musician. Even more importantly a very young daughter lost her Dad - a guy in his 20's who had so much living to do.

As iconic and as sad his story is, I can't help but shy away from watching anything Nirvana related simply because the amount of times I've seen them pushed in my face annoys the hell out of me. Pre-Nevermind Nirvana was good, the rest of it has grated on me over the years.

I missed this program damn it, how much of Green River/Mudhoney/Melvins/Sonic/Dino was shown? I'm gonna tape it on Sunday morning, it's being repeated at 5 past midnight if anyone wants to know (Saturday into Sunday) on BBC1.

I like how this doco looked at the band in the right way. Whoever's involved in making this series knows what they're talking about. IMO Kurt is one of the best and most interesting rock musicians of all time. In Utero is one of my favourite albums (Serve The Servants a choice cut). It saddens me to think of where Kurt could have gone from In Utero, like what Michael Stipe said on the doco Kurt was moving into another stage of songwriting that could have been even more amazing.

IMO if you just hear noise and Kurt screaming when you listen to Nirvana you don't appreciate music.

I know what your saying, and some of the evidence does point to a conspiracy, but I don't believe she had anything to do with it.

I believe Kurt died because HE shot himself, not anyone else.

I just wish Kurt was still alive, If only Nirvana had got the chance to make more great albums like Nevermind

Nirvana stripped down what rock music meant. they had a punk attitude and lyrics that meant something. They where not talking about drugs and chicks. Which are both great but I want my music to mean more
