Quick Question;

Why on earth can't the BBC show Neighbours during Wimbledon somehow!?

Of course they have to show the fine tournament, but with three additional BBC channels now, surely a temporary home for Neighbours could be found if they really wanted to!

Wouldn't BBC2 be the ideal place to show it during Wimbledon? It's available to the entire population (Unlike THREE and FOUR) and I find it difficult to believe that a 30-Minute place in the BBC2 schedule for such a long-running institution could not be arranged.

I just find it a bit bizarre that in this day and age of broadcasting the BBC can't find somewhere to show Neighbours for it's viewers during the tennis!

In some ways, FIVE is looking like quite an attractive new home for Ramsay Street's residents!

I think its more todo with not catching up too much with the Oz episodes

It needs to have breaks throughout the year so its not off air during their summer (and to maintain about 10 weeks delay)

Not sure how H&A works on Five, but they are on the same delay as Neighbours (about 10 to 12 weeks)

I cant see it being any different on Five, it will still have the same breaks as now, going by how H&A is

Thats right- there has to be a break between Oz and UK broadcast. Also Neighbours is off air over summer in Oz, and so we don't catch up with them we have to have breaks over here- some bank holidays and wimbledon.

H & A has only just recently started taking breaks on Five, but only a day here and there. It's always been shown all year round, but now they've started taking it off on bank holiday Mondays, presumably to avoid us catching up to Aussie pace.

If they carry on not showing H & A on bank holidays and stuff like that, then Neighbours will probably follow the same trend. Although I think it's unlikely that Neighbours and H & A will ever be taken off the air for a couple of weeks on Five, like Neighbours is on the BBC. Unless things get really bad though and we start rapidly catching up to Aussie pace! We're not too far behind now as it is...

Have you been watching H&A for a long while on Five (I have only just started)

If so, what was the delay about a year ago?

IMO, Five have started having the breaks in it now so that it remains atleast 10 weeks behind (same as Neighbours is on BBC), I expect to see more breaks coming up, just to keep this delay going

I really cannot see us catching up with Oz pace episodes, and to stop this there needs to be atleast a 4 week break spread throughout the year

well when it moves to 5 we wont have to worry about sporting events or major events disrupting scheduling cuz there arent really many

maybe bbc is gonna try and make people loose interest in neighbours so when it moves people wont be as inclined to follow???

Five has hardly ever had H&A breaks, when H&A first moved to five years ago we were more than a year behind and gradually we have caught up.

I'm sure I remember Neighbours being on BBC2 during Wimbledon many years ago, but I think they put an end to this and introduced the regular breaks because the UK was beginning to catch up with the Oz-paced episodes.

Yeah, I've watched Home & Away since the beginning when it was on ITV, and now when it was on Five. When it started on Five a few years ago, we were just over a year behind Australia. Around this time last year, I think we had just seen the cyclone, which was the season finale and season opener in Oz just before Christmas and just after the New Year. So I guess we must have been around 4/5 months behind. We are now only 2/3 months behind, so I guess we catch up about a month each year when it goes on its Xmas break in Oz.

I think Five will need to keep taking odd little breaks here and there otherwise we will have caught up to Aussie pace in a couple of years time

This is what I am getting at

H&A didnt used to have breaks because we where so far behind
I also recall Neighbours not having as many breaks (possibly on BBC2 during Wimbledon)

But because both these shows are now 10 weeks behind, this needs to be maintained, Neighbours goes off for Wimbledon etc, and H&A is now starting to have breaks

I could be wrong, but I cannot see us getting closer than we are currently to the Oz airing, and to keep this we need to have atleast a 4 week break sometime throught the year

BBC or Five, I dont think it matters, breaks are now going to happen more often than they did a few years ago

It's just plain annoying taking it off for 2 weeks. Some of us are not in the least bit interested in Wimbledon and would happily watch Neighbours on BBC2. With this lously weather Wimbledon is bound to be extended and mess up the schedules even more.

Tennis = boring crap
BBC = idiots

Bring on the move to C5 is all I can say. I hope the whole of Wimbledon gets rained off I would laugh my head off.

but as people above have said, the break is needed so as not to catch up to Oz pace and Wimbledon is just the excuse for the break but not the reason. And when it goes to five they'll probably have to take breaks too.

Tennis certainly isn't boring crap. Wimbledon is only on for two weeks per year, hardly a huge inconvenience to lose neighbours for that period is it?

The reason the BBC take neighbours off is to stop us catching up with Aus. They have regular season breaks down under, unlike UK soaps.

Why do people find that so hard to understand?

The break if it is required doesn't need to be for a 2 week block - 10 days spread over the year would be better. None of our other soaps are taken off for 2 weeks at a time.

I don't think Neighbours will be taken off for Wimbledon next year Probably just off for Bank Holidays. No doubt someone will moan about that too...

If Five have any sense, they will take a break from the series when BBC stops so they can stockpile loads of episodes and then run Neighbours every Mon - Fri untl they approaach the Australian pace.

Home and Away will have to lose a few eps a year to maintain the pace too. Bank Hols are the best one sto lose first, then I guess the week between Xmas ansd New Year, and maybe a few Fridays during the summer. ITV did thi sin their dying days. Friday eps usually gain the lowest ratings, so if they ran H&A Mon - Thurs during late July and all August (six weeks) they can then save six eps that way.

Neighbours is only shown for 3 days a week in OZ and it is shown 5 days a week here - so we will always catch up. The only way not to, would be if Five showed Neighbours 3 days a week.

When I was there a few years ago, it was only shown 3 days in a week. I assumed it was still the same.

It has been 5 days a week for quite a while now. I forgot it only used to be on 3 days a week- that was quite a while ago! I have just been doing a bit of research and they have been showing it every day of the week since 2001.

Good news , so it would be possible for Five to run at Oz pace if they (or the contract) allowed.

don't they still take several weeks break over Christmas in Oz like Home&Away does? I think that's what people are getting at when they say it needs some sort of break for the pace difference to remain the same.

the place is five, BBC is currently 3 - 4 months behind Australia, there is no danger of them catching up anytime soon
