Lite-on DD-A500GX - Any Advice/Comments Please?
Getting a Lite-on DD-A500GX from Argos tomorrow because its only £79.99:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/5335529.htm Going to use it to mainly record of Sky because I'm not interested in Sky+ even though I know it would probably be better. Any comments and/or advice on this machine would be very grateful, thanks!! ![]() P.S. Whats the Divx playback like, thats a very important feature to me?!

Well I went and got it this morning and I must say I'm quite amazed at how briilent it is.
I have had no problems with connections or playback of Divx/Xvid files!! ![]() I truly recommend this great cheap recorder/player! P.S. I did a firmware update as soon as a got it set up, so now its region/macrovision free aswell, even BETTER!!

Hi Dneill i got one of these recorders about two months ago , I already have the A760GX with the hard drive . Both of these recorders are excellent and well worth the money. The picture quality on most of the recording TIMES is very good , Plus the added bonus of HDMI output on the A500GX .The only downside i have found on the Recorders is the time it takes to Load a disc to record " No more chucking in a disc and hitting Record as soon as the tray closes" Which my last Recorder would do But i can live with that . I take it you got the firmware upgrade from the LITEON site and if you did what number is it or is it ONLY for the A500GX . Cheers enjoy your recorder fw750x

![]() I then used this, http://ilohacker.tripod.com/ to hack the file so it would make the player region/macro-vision free!

My only concern with it is though that it won't go in 16:9 unless I play a widescreen DVD, and yes I have changed the setting to 16:9?
![]() Anyone have any ideas?? |

Hi again did your previous dvd recorder/player change the T.V. automatically and with the SAME scart lead . I am thinking that the scart lead may not be fully wired " all the cables connected " inside the scart plugs ,If it is not fully wired it will not make the T.V. change by itself you have to select 16.9 with your T.V. remote i hope this helps . Thanks for the info on the firmware .fw750x

Yes, my previous DVD player changed the TV to 16:9 by its self.
When I play a 16:9 DVD on the DVD recorder then it changes the TV to 16:9, but when I stop the DVD it goes back to 4:3!?

It might be the T.V. Can you set the T.V. to 16.9 and store that setting so that it does not switch to 4.3. , The scart lead must be fully wired as it sends a seperate signal to the T.V. to play 16.9 . The only other thing i can think of has the T.V. got two or more Scart sockets as normally only one socket works on automatic change have you changed the scart socket from the previous setup. fw750x

I have set the TV to 16:9. But when its set to 16:9 programmes on Sky that are broadcast in 4:3 are put into 16:9 and kind of looked stretched because of this.
Its all the same connections as it was before I connected the DVD recorder. I'm just going to leave it with TV set to 16:9 and il try to ignore Sky picture looking stretched lol! ![]() thanks for all your help mate!!
