I'm coming to the end of my audio visual update. I've changed my display to a Samsung DLP, HK avr and recently a Felston DD740 Lip sync delay. My next purchase is to switch over to Blue Ray.
I note that the PS3 can play this format and wonder whether I should contemplate this option. Has anyone experience of running a BR disk through this? or should I stick to a stand alone unit costing twice as much?

PS3 works very well for me. I bought one mainly to view BD movies. It does many other things too, should be upgradable by firmware for the finalised BD-J spec. I use it with a Denon AV amp via optical connection and a Sony Bravia 40W2000.

It's generally regarded by a lot of the specialist magazines etc to be better performing than a lot of the expensive high-end models. You would expect that as Sony are the architects of Blu-Ray

HDMI 1.3 doesn't really do anything for lip-sync that an av receiver with a fixed delay can't do and we know that isn't adequate due to the constantly changing video delay from programme to programme.

All HDMI 1.3 does is allow the display to tell the av receiver what video delay it will add so the av receiver can delay the audio by that fixed amount.

Here's the authority on that:

http://hdmi.com/learningcenter/videos_audioformats.aspx

It's right near the end of the video presentation.

From my experience (in the US) the variable swings in video delay and hence lip-sync error are 40 to 50 ms over the course of a day even on the same network and still very disturbing even after the fixed delay of my Akai plasma has been offset so HDMI 1.3's new lip-sync feature would not help me at all.
