I have just moved house and laid cat6 and coax cables to several rooms including the 3 tv-rooms. I want to have a dedicated place (under the stairs) to keep all my equipment and be able to control from each room. I have no terestrial TV only SKY and a humax for astra 19E and a dvd player. I also have an IR distribution system from Keene electronics and an "sky eye" from my previous set up.

Could you tell me a way of piping all three sources to the different locations using either the individual coaxes (single to each room) (or the ethernet?). I am hoping to connect RF2 to a distribution amp like the T120 from TVlink or similar and control all devicesusing ir "sky eye" and the TVLinkPlus box. Regarding the video can I daisy chain the other 2 devices somehow to the digibox?

Would appreciate your help with this, I cannot find a clear example of a similar setup anywhere.

Many thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!

Are you happy with RF-quality distribution or do you want composite video or even RGB distribution?

Here's a lengthy discussion on piping RGB via SCART from multiple sources to multiple destinations independently, which is what I've done: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=562491

There are distribution systems based on CAT5 cable, e.g. http://www.bluedelta.co.uk/milestone_system.htm - this type of thing tends to work with composite video only and gets very expensive if you want multiple in and multiple out!

You could also distribute composite video wirelessly and relatively cheaply with video senders that you can buy additional receivers/transmitters for, coupled with switches to handle multiple sources maybe.

I have this IR extender system: http://www.habitek.co.uk/catalog/cat32_7.htm

I don't know a lot about RF distribution though, but I assume you're aware of the limitations of RF?

Thanks Chris,
I think RF is fine for the two bedroom tvs. (I have put up withit so far.

For the livingroom I want to buy an lcd so not sure if it will be ok for that. (although the source will be close so that I can wire that directly in some other way. Obviously I would like to take advantage of the higher definitions, I do not know if the rf output handles this.

Appreciate your help! The RGB option seems very complicated, and also would mean i would need to rewire, something i have just done, so obviously not keen on that.
\i tried a wireless video sender from philips a long time ago, but was not happy with it, it was very prone to interference. I do live in a quieter area now, but still have dect, wifi and lots of pcs... Would like to know if the higher defs can be sen over rf or if that has to be some other connection to the room next to it.

High definition can only be sent via HDMI/DVI, component video, or even PC-style VGA signals, but not via RF, composite video, or RGB.

You're on the right lines with the RF distribution amp though, where you can tune each device to transmit on a particular channel then distribute it around the house as though it was a normal TV channel, so you could have the analogue channels on 1,2,3,4,5 as normal then Sky on 6, Humax on 7, DVD player on 8, for example. But as stated, I've never done RF distribution so I'll let someone else take over! Have a look at this http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/lofthelp.htm and click on the individual products which will gice some advice and diagrams. Might also be a good idea to hunt down a local aerial installer who could work it all out for you.

The Cat5 method could be used which will give you much better quality but it will be very expensive.

The RGB method isn't really complicated, no more complicated than Cat5 distribution would be, it's just that you've got thicker cables to try and route!

Thanks Chris, you are realy helping me!
I think I will go the RF route for the upstairs TVs and find some other alternative for the main TV.

urrently the HD content is on my server and could be served via a media extender. (Will get one when the V2 versions come out.) Really want to use my existing cabling, except for the living room as it is very close to the source.

However there lies the problem and will probably mean i will go rf there too for the moment. The only option here seems to be composite RGB or RF. Here I need to balance ease of install with picture quality. I guess rgb means a long scart cable. (how do you get a scart plug through a small hole inthe wall) Another possibility could be a wireless video sender. My past experience was not good, but here the distance is so small that it may actually be an option.

Do you think the quality will be very noticable on the lcd?

thanks,

jaap

http://www.stoneaudio.co.uk/default....p?product=2072

this is an option, however.............

sky over rf is quite good and to get the best out of the box its got to be RGB scart so can you not put sky in living room and have the rf signal going to under the stairs then into say a slx distributer to each bedroom?

a magic eye in each bedroom would allow you to change the sky box from upstairs and on a normal 14" crt telly the signal will be really good.

you would just need a single wall socket and blanking plate. push out the centre and its just big enough to put your rf cable through. NEAT AND TIDY

get a distrubution amp which allows skys magic eye to work

thanks for your help. I am hoping to keep all out of the living room however. If i move sky into the livingroom, then the humax (19,2) and dvd will have to go there too. (I want to loop RF through (modulating the dvd signal) and then single output from rf2 on sky to the distribution amp.

still thinking though... maybe a wireless link for the short distance to the living room is the easiest and (may) support rgb..

Use bare cable and a wall plate as linked above, or I saw recently a SCART lead where the plug is connected to the cable via a small round DIN connector, for feeding through small holes. Haven't got the link to hand but you might be able to find it by Googling.

Wireless won't support RGB I'm afraid, only composite.
