The Eagles

Being of an old ripe age , I am quite a big fan of the group. I can just about remember some of their later released albums.
Sure The Long Run was almost certainly never going to measure up to Hotel California, but it still has 3 Eagles classic songs on it; The Long Run, I Can't Tell You Why & Heartache Tonight. As a group they certainly power-housed their way through the early seventies and influenced a few groups and acts along the way. They have to their name two of the biggest selling albums of all time, Greatest Hits & Hotel California, with Hotel usually making the top ten of best albums of all time. My personal favourite Eagles songs being, The Last resort, Wasted Time, Desperado, Hotel California & Take It To The Limit (preferably sung by Randy Meisner)
But does anyone on here actually like their music?

I quite liked them in the mid 70s, but got bored with them, and have hardly listened to them since.

Hotel california is a great track, and I still like One of These Nights, but as for the rest, I cant really listen to them now.

They might be long in the tooth now, but Im glad I had the chance to see them back in Earls Court in 01. Sadly I didnt get to see them all as Felder was sacked a few weeks before...

Great band, love Hotel California. I've heard there's an acoustic version of it somewhere, does anyone know where i can find it?

I like the Eagles... well, I like the first three albums. 'Desperado' in particular has some great songs and IMO is the one that should be in all those 'best of' lists, rather than 'Hotel California'. I know the title track of 'Hotel' is the one everyone loves, and I liked the song when it first came out... now its so overplayed, I can't stand to listen to it any more (iTunes is telling me I have 34 Eagles tracks loaded up, 'HC' sure ain't one of 'em!). 'New Kid in Town' and 'Pretty Maids All in a Row' are about the only tracks I can take from that album these days.

Love The Eagles. Hotel California is a classic album. Have greatest hits by them too and every track is great.

Only 34? I'm sad to say including live versions of several songs I have 208 or 1.3GB
I love Desperado, it sounds far better live than a "clean" studio take. But they way they harmonise well there is little difference between the two sometimes. Currently listening to a "bootleg" concert of their reunion.

Gosh, Havelock, 208? You're quite a fan - more power to ya, I say.

I always edit out those tracks I don't like when I load up an album into iTunes, so those 34 are most of the first three albums and a couple of tracks each from 'One of These Nights' and 'Hotel California'. You can add another ten, though, if you count the various country artists on that 'Common Thread' tribute album, there's some pretty good versions of their songs on that. I guess you probably have that album.

You wouldn't also be a Poco fan, by any chance?, who the Eagles of course filched two successive bass players from . Though I don't think they made one single album as good as 'Desperado', they beat the Eagles in my track count, I'm afraid (73).

I love the Eagles

got all their stuff on vinyl - which I cannot play now
so only recently purr chased (sic) a CD Greatest Hits.......

IMO, there is nothing more pleasant, than driving on a warm sunny day, down the country lanes of Kent, window down, arm hanging out, singing along to the choons......

can't do that today though *looks out of window and scowls*

I love the Eagles and own quite a few of their albums. My parents were fans of them so I grew up listening to the Hotel California and Greatest Hits (71-76?) albums.

Simon1983 I think the version of Hotel California you are thinking of is taken from their MTV live session. That can be found on the "Hell Freezes Over" cd which I think was released around the mid 90's when the reformed for a little while. Its a great vesion too - well worth a listen!

Yeah I have some Poco on my Zen only 28 tracks. I rather like their style. Poco were sort of a farm team for the Eagles, but they must have been very good for them to pinch two from them.

Love the Eagles, saw them in '76 on the Hotel California tour, with full orchestra.

Desperado is a country rock concept album, something very rare; full of great songs too, like Tequila Sunrise.

If anyone likes Poco, they might like The Flying Burrito Brothers who influenced the Eagles. Bernie Leadon was in both bands, and My Man is the Eagles' beautiful tribute to chief Burrito Gram Parsons.

I like both , Eagles and Poco , Timothy B Schmit was a fine vocals/bass player in both bands.

Hotel California was a brilliant album, but the Eagles took 3 years to follow it up with The Long Run. In those days most acts put out an album a year; I think the band lost momentum in that long gap between releases. Punk happened and The Long Run, when it finally appeared, seemed a bit weak.
