Up yours, iPhone Enthusiasts!

Hat tip to Apple. Not only did they manage to put geek world into turmoil world wide with a simple product announcement.

As it turns out now, they'll make iPhone owners pay dearly for the pleasure (apple release, slashdot commentary).

Amazingly, the part (and contracts) will sell like cold beer on a hot Sunday afternoon.

From what I understand, the plans are pretty reasonable, not cheap but not overly expensive either. The phone itself is worth it to a lot of people, just like any high end piece of technology.

Thats a good price for:
Unlimited Data
Rollover Minutes
Unlimited Mobile To Mobile calls.

the plans look reasonable to me. with unlimited data, unlimited at&t mobile to at&t mobile, and 5000 evening and weekend minutes in addition to the minutes in the plans.

I think you all just got used to high-cost service charges. $60+ per month (plus the part in the first place, and the 24-month tie-in, etc), that is a lot of money, especially since many will have it because they want to, not because they need to.

Back in the good old days, we had a landline phone bill less than half of that and found it expensive. Getting old, as it seems.

The "Good Old Days" ? You mean the era of the telegraph?

They seem like good deals to me. For the equivalent of $60 (£30) I get nowhere near as much on my O2 plan - its £3 per MB of data transfer for crying out loud, and this is UNLIMITED! That alone makes it worth the money.

Hopefully we get something similar to this. Not likely though.

Your bank translates $60 to £30. I am sure when Vodaphone (or whoever gets the deal) announces their pricing in the UK, they'll come up with their very own exchange rate.

I continue to believe this is a very expensive gadget. Sexy and cute may it be, but gadget nevertheless.

I realise I don't have to buy it. Obviously, I won't. Saving my money for other gadgets

I doubt the plans will work in remotely the same way since the markets are so different.

And of course it's a gadget, so are other phones. And yes it does cost a fair bit, it's not cheap but it's not supposed to be for everyone. It's an advanced piece of technology combing multiple devices into one. As an iPod it far exceeds the quality of their similar capacity models and people don't seem to have a problem with them.

Well I'm not tekkie at all and it's the only gadget I really covet. The only computer I've ever learned to use is an Apple (industry standard for me), I'm useless at texting and conduct most of my busuness by email. I feel like I've been waiting all my life for one of these things. I just hope they end up letting most of the phone manufacturers have a version, because I don't really want to change my phone number.
