British Soap Award winners!
I have to say some of these results REALLY annoyed me, although generally it's a predictable old list.
Sexiest male - Shane Ritchie (EastEnders) Sexiest female - Jessie Wallace (EastEnders). Comedy performance - Andrew Whyment (Coronation Street). Spectacular scene - Coronation Street for villain Richard Hillman's confession of murders. Best newcomer - Jack McMullen (Brookside). Best onscreen partnership - Jack McMullen who plays Josh McLoughlin and Sarah White who plays his mother Bev (Brookside). Best dramatic performance - Sue Nicholls (Coronation Street). Villain of the year - Brian Capron (Coronation Street). Hero of the year - Sue Nicholls (Coronation Street). Best storyline - Coronation Street for plot involving serial killer Richard Hillman Best exit - Brian Capron (Coronation Street). Special achievement award - Dean Sullivan for his 17 years playing Jimmy (Brookside). Best single episode - Emmerdale for Marlon and Trisha's failed wedding day plans. Best actor - Brian Capron (Coronation Street). Best actress - Kacey Ainsworth (EastEnders). Best British soap - Coronation Street. |

I have to say, Emmerdale deserved more than ONE for crying out loud, and when you consider Brookside got three..
FAR more deserving winners of Sexiest Female, too... And the "comedy performance" award is just plain CRAP. I presume that Andrew thingy is Kirk...yes, really hilarious Somebody wake me UP... |

Well even though I think Brian Capron's portrayal of a pantomime villain has been WAY over-rated, I'm glad to see Alfie & Kat win the Sexiest Male & Female awards respectively.
If they're not a shoe-in for the Best Couple award next year then the EE writers want shooting! (Still shocked at the Best Newcomer Award and would have loved to have seen Natalie finally get the recognition she deserves in the Best Actress category). |

Sonia hasn't really done tOO much in the last year to warrant it, though imo.
Incidentally, has anyone got a list of shortlist nominations for each category, or do we have to wait until it's screened on Wednesday? And I'm still furious that Brookside got more than Emmerdale

Nice to see Brookie winning a few!
Channel 4 hopefully will realise that it still has life in it and think twice about axing it. They have until July to make their intentions known to MerseyTV, and they have scheduled a primetime episode for 18:30 on the 24th of May - hopefully it will get a decent audience. Well done to Corrie too! |

She didnt deserve to come away empty handed.I'm annoyed Brookside got more than Emmerdale too.

Well Jessie's not ugly or anything, but there are MUCH better looking people who could and should have won it. Like Amy Nuttel..
And I agree about Leah Bracknell, she should've won best dramatic performance by FAR.. |

Originally posted by Chris E I must say that I gave up with Brookside when they gave it a filmic look and went a bit crazy with the nuclear bomb being dropped on the petrol station or whatever. Its a shame as I'd watched it from day 1. I'm sorry they took it off from its weekday slots as I'd be more likely to catch it there. I'd get back into it if someone can reassure me its found its feet again.Nice to see Brookie winning a few! Well done to Corrie too! Its like the Bill. I left that alone when it went mad with the manic culling of the characters. Now I'm back into it cos the characters are better and the storylines are good. Well done, Corrie. Sorry EE - gave up on you a while back. Not home early enough for Emerdale. Bye bye High Road - you never stood a chance ric9380

a nuclear bomb was dropped?! Tell me you're exaggerating otherwise it sounds like I missed the best thing in soap land ever! I agree about Hollyoaks though, most of the actors have improved loads (most coming into Holyoaks are awful for a good six months), and they tackle some really good story lines, it's a shame people don't credit it with more.

Nah - was kidding but it was (I think) a Police helicopter which crashed into Britain's only petrol station situated in a cul-de-sac, thus blowing the Nolans to pieces.
I like what I've seen of Hollyoaks but its on at the wrong time for me. On your recommendation I shall take more notice of it. ric9380

the helicopter crash should have won spectacular scene of the year. ive never seen a stunt so realistic in my life. the best soap stunt evr ever. i was onset when they filmed the crash because i work with writer roy boulter. they swung a replica copter down on a crane and smashed it in some cars. it was the best stunt ever and it was robbed by richards CRAP death

And for those of us who like petite brunettes I'd say Leah can not only act fantastically but is a looker too. Thats my testosterone loaded opinion ! |

Thought both Helen Worth and Leah Bracknell deserved awards. To be fair the public voted didn't they for most of them. Why they voted for Brookie is a mystery.
Also as you say just about everyone in Emmerdale beats Jessie Wallace and Shane Ritchie as sexy. Shane Ritchie deserved best comic performance or newcomer! He is the ONLY reason to watch EE! |
