OMG, now I have picked myself up off the floor.

Don't believe any crap about Plasma needing regasing.

On HiDef both have excellent picture quality, on Std Def plasma will out perform any LCD any day of the week.
LCD suffers more from motion blurring when viewing fast moving pictures.

Sure Plasma can suffer from screen burn but this is very rare now days & would only happen under extreme circumstances. Most Plasma have anti burn measures built in. What you do see is image retention which means the image is retained for a few seconds before fading out.

Plasma TVs need to be run in for 100-200hrs or so with brightness & contrst levels on about 50%

Best rule of thumb is if your going to use the TV for lots of gaming then get a LCD if its for mostly viewing TV then Plasma is the go.

What Plasma do you currently own ?

So LCD is better for gaming than plasma? I'm a gamer and watch sports- which would be better for me?

Well you need to decide which you do the most or which is more important to you.
There are a lot of Plasma owners out there that also have Xbox-360 & PS3 on the screens & play games.

Well I thought for the last couple of years LCDs are better - I have a smaller 26in one at the moment but am looking to upgrade to 42 or even 46in.

I'd shortlisted a few from Toshiba, Sharp, LG and Samsung - but have now heard good things about the new Plasma due out soon from Pioneer - its 8th series of panels with (claimed) excellent blacks. But it won't be cheap!

Cheers, daveac

Panasonic are launching a 1080p Full HD 42 inch plasma in the next few months.

Most lcds look better in the shops but in the home from my opinion plasma look better in that enviroment.

Im tempted by either 42 inch plasma by pioneer or panasonic but not in a very big rush. Some of the lcds i have seen are impressive so depends on what around when i properly start looking.

I did a lot of LCD against Plasma comparison when I was looking for a new TV. I went for the Pioneer PDP-427XD based on reviews and what I saw when making comparisons.

I am really happy with it as it plays SD stuff really well. You do not get any of the digital artifects that you can see quite clearly with LCDs in shops. That is not necessarily true of all LCDs, but you would probably have to pay a lot more than the £1200 I paid for my plasma to get SD processing as good as the Pioneer plasma.

HD stuff looks amazing and it also upscales DVD very well.

I have had no image retention after 4 months use, despite the kids insisting on leaving it on programs with huge logos.

So my choice would be plasma, but each to their own. My advice is to compare them side by side with an average quality SD input and see what you think looks best. Remember on current UK TV, 90% of what you will be watching will be SD for some time to come.

It is no good comparing them with a high quality PC driven HD test program. That will make a very average TV look great in the shop.

Only down side to plasmas is they are not very environmentally friendly as they can use up to 300 watts!
