Panasonic TX-28DT30 Aspect Ratio Problems
Basically i have a Panasonic TX-28DT30. My problem is that when i watch channels for example sky sports the whole channel does not fit into the screen?
is there a way u can lift the screen from the bottom to see the scoreboard while watching cricket. basically i cannot see everything. it is not all fitting into the screen how it should nicely. Please help as this problem is very annoying. Thanks |

Try setting it to 4:3 to start with. You should not be losing anything at all in 4:3 mode, but you will definitely have grey or black bars down the left and right of the screen - and, if you are watching a widescreen transmission via Sky or Freeview, everybody should look tall and thin. If you are still losing some of the picture off the bottom of the screen, then your TV needs repairing.
Next try watching the same thing in 16:9 mode - a widescreen transmission should be stretched out to fill the screen completely widthways, but the top and bottom of the screen should remain in exactly the same position. A non-widescreen transmission (Sky Sports News) should make everybody look fat, but the tickertape that runs along the bottom of the screen should be totally visible. Again, if you are losing some of the picture at the bottom, then your TV is broken. The other aspect ratios of your TV should make some of the top and bottom of your screen disappear, and are there to allow you to omit the black bars top and bottom from the picture when viewing a non-anamorphic widescreen transmission (i.e. a widescreen video, or a widescreen programme being shown on one of the Sky channels that doesn't apply anamorphic widescreen such as UK TV Gold, so that it appears to be in letterbox mode when watching in 4:3). What it sounds like is you have one of these zoom modes selected when there are no black bars top and bottom, so you are actually omitting some of the picture instead. |

Sky sports will not fill the screen completely as it's a 4:3 picture, there should be bars at the side. If there are not bars at the side the either the TV is set to 16:9 (fattyvision for a 4:3 programme) or as seems likely your TV is set to zoom (the exact terminology varies for TV supplier). You can tell it's set to zoom if there are no bars at the side (on Sky Sports) and the people don't look fat. It could also be set to 14:9 zoom if there are small bars at the side.
The Sky box should always be set to 16:9, the setting for the TV will be 4:3 or something like "auto" to allow the box to switch aspect ratios properly. |
