Deano has given her chance after chance, she just can't stop being selfish. She puts blokes ahead of her children, which is wrong. And she doesn't seem to recognise what Deano needs from her, love and support. When she breaks promises and stuff, she doesn't realise how much that hurts her kids. There doesn't seem to be any understanding there.

She does seem to be genuinely upset about not having a relationship with her children but she isn't do anything to be a good mother.

I'm in two minds if they should. My dad's amtes wife walked out on him and his three kids when the youngest was about a year I always think about her when watching Shirly and Dean especially at the begining. At the end of the day she ambandoned them but she is still there mother. She came back and tracked the kids down that must mean she wants to have another chance. She must have been young when she had the kids no experiences now ther all older and wiser maybe they should try and make ago of things. I suppose it's diffferent for Carly because she can remeber her mum before she left so maybe she saw somethings that she didn't like. But I htink it's one of the reasons Carly seems an angry person she was angry when Shirly left and didn't know how to show it and lashes out at other people a lot and can't really get close to anyone maybe if she gave it a go she would be different but I htink it might have been a bit too late for her to give Shirly a chance she's made her own life now, she doesn't neeed her.

Shirley wont ever be a constant support in their lives, and i cant see her ever been able to maintain a close relationship with them. Deano keeps taking her crap and crawling back for more, Carly is the opposite and refuses to and seems very resentful of her. they are probably best off without her, they've managed without her this long, and they still cant count on her, shes older and still doesnt have her shit together, so they shouldnt give her another chance at the moment, but one assumes they will and that there will be a lot more arguments, let downs, and all that kind of drama since this is a soap.

When Carly gave Shirley a chance and Shirley lied about who her biological father was who was Shirley protecting ?? Kev, Carly or herself???

well not Kev thats for sure. she said she was thinking about Carly, and didnt want to tell her it was in a back ally with some sweaty guy who she doesnt remember much of anything about. but i think it's pretty clear she was protecting herself too and trying to come off better, Carlys not a child, she doesnt need a fairytale version of events. Carly came for the truth, whatever Shirley's reasons for lying, it was a big mistake to lie, because Carly's sick of the lies and been let down, that isnt going to earn Carly's trust, she had a chance and she blew it. if she'd have been honest the outcome wouldnt have been half as bad as it was when Carly realised she was lying to her.

I think shirley still loves Kevin (in someway) she could be protecting him, especially if Carly's dad was Kev's best friend. Dylan. Shirley is obviously caught in a spiral of self destructive behaviour, Drinking, sleeping around lying, Testing love to the absolute limit. kev must of loved he quite unconditionally once upon a time. Deep down he still does. (very deep down). But it seems she pushed and pushed till she pushed him to the limit. She is doing the same to Deano.

interesting theory. yeah she isnt a stable person so her influence on carly and deano would be negative right now, which is why i hope they dont give her another chance at the moment.

I took it as she was too drunk to remeber from her convo with Pat.

Maybe Deano and Carly have to think how they would feel if Shirley got run over by a bus tommorrow and they never saw her again. I think Deano would feel very guilty, and upset that he never got the relationship he wanted. Carly would be good riddance but we will see her in therapy in 15 years and it will be one of her issues. They all need to just hang in there , look at Keith and Dawn. (Mind you Mikey completly rejected Mike didn't he)

Does anybody think Kevin really is Deano and Carlys Dad and Shirley lied for all of those years? If she did than she really doesnt deserve another chance

we all make mistakes (some greater than others lol) however shirley obv wants to get to know her children better now and we all deserve a second chance imo!!!

If kev was really to be their Dad that would be incredibly cruel of Shirley to have done that to kev for getting on for 23 years and to allow her children to go through such despair. She could have killed her son. I can see her lying to him out of spit all those years ago, but not ensuring Carly and Deano found out. However she did believe it would push them towards her. If Deano found out Shirley lied about this that would be the end of any relationship he might have with his mother and I think Shirley would have to worry for her safety from both Deano and Kevin

i think Dean will always give Shirley chance after chance. He has always longed to have a mum. Because Shirley knows Dean will always be there as he is a softie she doesnt care how she really treats him as she knows he will welcome her with open arms.
Carly is a different story...she's quite stubborn and makes up her own mind about things.

Deano is probibly very like kevin was when she first knew him , after all Kevin was only 20 when they got married. So Shirley treats him as she always treated Kev, she wanted him but pushed him away and always put herself first

No she doesn't deserve it. She lied to Carly about her dad. She ditched Dean to go off with men. Sounds like a mother you'd really want.
