o2 MMS not enabled

I recently bought a Nokia 7650 from o2 on the online 50 tariff. I've just telephoned the customer services number after having no reply from the email address for several days.

Firstly, I questioned as to why I could not send MMS messages (a message, 'user barred' appearing). I was told that she wasn't able to enable it until after my next bill date in a months time - one month without part of the service I consider I have paid for!!

Secondly, they have taken £50 extra from my account initially. As I am only 18 and have no credit history, they informed me they'd have to take £79.99 for the phone, plus a £50 deposit which would be paid back after 3 months. They have, however, taken an extra £50 on top of this. I was advised to go to my bank and ask for the payment to be returned - is this the best course of action, or is this payment for something?

Thanks.

Thats shocking behavour...

Only time i have ever heard of any networks required deposits was T-Mobile, and thats only if you want International Roaming turning on, and you have been with them for less than 3 months.

Dunno why they'd take an extra £50 from your account. AFAIK, networks do still take deposits of around £50 from people who fall into certain categories - my partner had a £50 deposit taken when he joined Vodafone a couple of years back. Another mate had the same thing on Cellnet (as was) a while before that, and when I think about it a colleague of mine had to pay a deposit when he took out his first contract phone because he had a slightly poor credit rating because of his ex.

As a slight aside, a friend of mine who manages an independant phone retailer was telling me that as it stands just now, you cannot receive MMS messages if your number is one that has been ported from another network. A mate of mine is on T-Mobile with a Sony Ericsson P800 and can send MMS no problem at all, but he cannot receive them. His number started off on Cellnet, then went to Vodafone then he moved it to T-Mobile. Apparantly according to T-Mobile its a problem on all networks and they are working on a resolution just now. Anyone else come across this?

I received two emails today, one telling me that MMS would be enabled within 24 hours, and 5 minutes later, it was (can't really understand why it wasn't enabled initially though).

The other one, regarding the extra payment, said 'I called you this afternoon to try and the ged number from the bank for that amount you said we have taken as soon as I have that I can get it credited back in your account.'

Didn't really understand what she meant here, so I telephoned the bank, and neither did they. They said they should just debit the money back in with a sort code and account number - which I have now sent.

It also didn't inspire with confidence with the words 'you said we have taken' - can't they see who they've been taking money from? And to add to my annoyance, the online billing service seems absolutely rubbish, with my last entry being for 9/5/03 (two days ago), and the stated figures of remaining messages/talktime having no relevance to anything.

Hopefully when this is sorted, I can just completely forgot about them, and use the phone.

I recently took a contract out with o2 too, this is my 3rd phone off them because i didnt like the other ones ,the other 2 were free ,but i decided to go for the nokia 5100 but they wanted £25 towards it, so i tryed to order it online but it declined my freinds card so i phoned up and tryed to get it and it was also declined.I phoned up the next day and the order went though, only my mate got a phone call from his credit card company telling that £25 had been taken from his credit card 3 times bringing it to £75, when i phoned o2 up on there 0906 number ,she wasnt interested at all, she said he would have to get a statement from his credit card company and fax it though, but it could take some time..I wish i never choose 02 now for a contract phone worst mistake ive made.As for the fee up front on t-mobile, i paid £60 a couple of years back and got it back a week later...

o2 are a bunch of cowboys!! If it wasnt for the 500 free texts i wouldnt be with them. Taken me ages to get my phone MMS enabled, but finally its done!! Only after several e mails and phone calls to their expensive line. Their e mail people are quite good, better than the people on the phone, so hopefully everything wih my 7250 now sorted and i can send cool pics to me mates! Keep pestering them tho, by e mail is best too!!
