Casualty - tragic coincidence
Rosie Red
28-06-2007
I watched Casualty on Saturday to see Joe McFadden. The storyline was about a guy of 28 who fell into an open drain, and got his hand caught in a mechanical wheel - they had to perform amputation to release him before he drowned.

On Monday, a guy of 28 fell into an open drain, and got his foot caught, in a mechanical wheel. The only way to have got him out would have been to amputate. Sadly he drowned.

But just how bizarre was that?

I heard about that too - so unfortunate that it didn't end the same way

Exactly my thought when I heard on the news that a guy was trapped in Hull. Sadly didn't end the same way. I'm sure BBC relieved that they had already broadcast otherwise it would have been inappropriate to do so I believe.

I'm surprised the papers haven't jumped on it.

I can't help wondering if the poor guy from Hull watched Casualty on Saturday. Imagine, he may have watched it, and commented on it as it was his line of work....it's so ironic.

Yes, it was seriously odd wan't it?

I went to university in Hull, I was sad to hear of what happened there during the floods this week. I feel for that poor guy's family.

This is so sad. Watching Casualty I wondered why they didn't get hold of some diving equipment or even the oxygen mask or some sort of snorkle to give the poor man a bit longer while they released him.

They did do stuff like that... they'd just about got him free when he died of hyperthermia.
