New Liverpool based soap for the BBC?
To replace Neighbours apparently. 7th story down on Broadcast Now:
http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/ Can't read the full article though ![]() What does everyone think? Good idea? I'm a huge fan of Jimmy McGovern's work so for that reason I think it has great potential, plus it could finally fill the void left by Brookside. |

Isn't Hollyoaks enough?
And if not, what about the sour lingering memory of Brooky?! |

Lol...
In all serious though I saw Paul Barber in Dead Man's Cards recently where he was playing a scouser doorman in a run down nightclub and he was fantastic in that role.... |

To be honest though I like the idea of a new scouse based soap and it looks like its coming from talented people.
But will it be a graveyard for former Brooky actors? |

This has the potential to be quite good, a bit like Brookie mixed with the early days of Grange Hill.
I'm guessing it won't be too much like Brookside because of the time slot but they could do a lot worse than use some of the actors like Dean Sullivan. |

It could be quite good, as long as they don't pad out the cast with has-beens from Brookside!

I think itll be awful, especially if the rumours of them filming in the Kirkdale area are true, I live in Liverpool and yesterday my bus went through that area and what did I see, children sitting ouside their houses in groups of five and a couple of prostitutes, make a day time soap out of that worth watching and Ill shave my head!

I, personally, would LOVE it if it was actually Brookside coming back. Jimmy McGovern would defo be the one to restore it to it's former glory. And if not, they could do worse than use great former Brookie stars like Sue Jenkins, Dean Sullivan and Philip Olivier.

Sounds good. Will be good for those who live here in the Capital (of Culture 08). Should be better quality than something similar with Jimmy McGovern at the helm. He has a strong background in developing new writers. Also, with Colin McKeown being involved, Phil Redmond will have nothing to do with it. They had a big bust up years ago I believe. Looking forward to seeing how this one develops.

Surely theres enough from the North West, Theres Corri, Hollyoaks and Brooky (R.I.P)
How about set in Newcastle or Edinburgh or Jersey or something. |

Hollyoaks is set in Chester, not Liverpool. There are hardly any Liverpool accents in it and it refers to trips to Manchester more often than Liverpool, which is credible for the area.
hollyoaks is filmed in liverpool |

If its only 20 episodes how is it a soap? for a soap it would have be to at least 6 months of the year.
