I'm hoping some kindly soul can help me out here. A good few years ago, I got my mother a Sony MDT-313 mini hi-fi system. It was part of a sales promotion that we had at the time (I worked for a Sony Centre), and as I was into separates I paid it little or no interest and off it went to mums house.

I've been out of the trade nearly eight years now, and have since moved hundreds of miles away from home - and tonight my mum tells me that the hi-fi keeps switching on during the night "all by itself"- she has of course inadvertantly set the timer - the problem is she can't see the timer button on either the facia or the remote to switch it back off!

Would anyone have one of these systems, or even a user or service manual for one that they could take a peep at and tell me roughly where it is so I can guide her to the right button over the phone?

Thanks in advance

Thank you! Problem solved, your help allowed me to look at the manual and talk mum through it on the phone.

OK - perhaps not. It now appears that it got a fault. With no timers set, and the batteries removed from the remote, it switches itself on randomly - it did it 3 times whilst I was on the phone to her earlier (about a 15 minute period).

It has been unplugged from the mains for now to stop its rude interuptions.

My initial suspicion makes me think that the power switch on the front panel might be duff? I'll be travelling up in about four weeks and will be able to have a look at it, so any pointers would be appreciated.
