I think that sounds like an awesome idea for a Christmas storyline!!!

Sorry nothing new I just wanted to bump this thread back to the front page. Hopefully it might squeeze out some of the unpleasantness currently ongoing.

Come on people lets get speculating... there are only 173 days left until Christmas!!

Here's my idea - Doctor couldn't get any original parts for the Tardis so had to repair it with what came to hand, as a result it's still a bit wonky and is generating paradoxes

Or Master left an "easter egg" in the Tardis to foil Doctor (the hand perhaps)

“All we have to go on for identification seems to be the lifebelt. On the lifebelt, it only says "Titanic" twice. Wouldn't it say "RMS Titanic" if it was from the real vessel? In fact, I've seen elsewhere that lifebelts on the White Star Line at the time were more likely be just plain white.”

RTD is going to have to tread carefully with this one - Who obsessives colliding with Titanoracks, all watching for tiny errors!

Haven't read the whole thread so apologies if someone's already said this but...

Maybe the Titanic hasn't sunk causing some issue with the space-time continuum and the Dr, although sadly has to make events happen correctly!

Just a thought!

I am most certainly not an obsessive though.

I was just pointing out that the real tragedy that was the sinking of the Titanic should not be used frivilously i.e. showing it being sunk by the TARDIS or Sea Devils etc.

That is rather different from a historical epic like the movie (although even that was questionable when it suggested the lookout was distracted by Rose and Jack).

That all said, I do strongly suspect that it will NOT be the supposed "real" Titanic that is involved in the Christmas plotline.”

i see where your comming from and i do believe that rtd and the crew would not use the real story out of context, i know believe it will be a replica and it will involve sally sparrow at some point, i can remember my granny telling me what her mum told her was that when the titanic was sailing that last fatefull night she felt a peace with the world, something she had never been before or after the tradgedy, like a sense of knowing something was comming,

I also doubt it will be the "real" Titanic, also what cruise company would name their new ship "Titanic" - it just would never happen.

The lifebelt, however, can easily be explained away as a souvenir of the original disaster that was on deck in a glass case when the Tardis crashed into a modern cruise liner.

In "Blink" does anyone know what the "boyfriend" character was saying with those leaflets in his hand (with Cunard - White Star on them), was he suggesting a holiday/cruise?

But what I was getting at was to explore the possibility that the Xmas story wouldn't be abou the real Titanic.

In the last ten minutes of the the series finale when the Doctor is asking Martha where they should go, he says something along the lines of "...riding the waves of space..." or something like that.....

The Doctor has his sonic screwdriver, he must be a bit of a handyman.

The TARDIS will probably heal itself over through the episode, maybe a whole in time will rip open as the TARDIS interior is exposed through the hole. or Knowing RTD, the hole will just dissapear lol.

“A plot hole big enough to pilot the TARDIS through.”
I didn't understand that bit. There was some sort of explanation going on but I was fiddling with the remote control at the time and I missed it.

The Titanic is not an ancient legend, a fictional story or something funny. It is a grave that belongs to over a thousand people who suffered the most appalling deaths.

If RTD serves up a story that involves The Doctor or an enemy race being shown to affect the outcome of this terrible and tragic REAL event then I personally would find it offensive.

Hopefully, the version of the Titanic actually featured will be something different altogether...

I can but hope...

(And for the record - I don't have any direct relations that were involved, but I am aware that many families do)”

Tell that to James Cameron. He made a fortune from his sickening version of events.

Unless the Tardis has materialised round the boat somehow, its happened before in the original series! However it looked like it had been hit and punctured mind u, which goes against all we know about the Type 40...

Good idea, but it sounds a bit to depressing for an christmas special.

Clive Swift, who was the "never too keen on those dalek things" Jobel in Revelation of the Daleks, and was in keeping up appearances, is in Voyage of the Damned. "It's a lovely part" apparently.
