Emmerdale: Donna
I was wondering how can donna arrest Eli and Carl for affray when she's only a Special Constable, I didn't think a Special had the power of arrest?

Yes they do. They have the same powers as a regular officer, but to charge someone there has to be two officers (special or otherwise) present.
Anyone can make a citizen's arrest. |

She would have to first announce herself as a Special Constable and then arrest them, which she didnt do.
Going back to an earlier storyline when she pulled over Eric for using his mobile ......... Specials are not allowed to drive a police vehicle whilst on active duty. It's time like this when you just wish the writers would just research a little bit. |

But she said she was going to apply to become a full time policewoman some time ago ... she and Moron needed the money for the house they have just bought, so it sounds like Hotten Police must of rushed it through ...

But at the moment they have to give Donna something to do. She'll probably end up solving the King murder (well Grace is more than useless!!) and, Markynotts, as a special constable, who is she answerable to? I thought CID and "plods" had a separate hierarchy.... Feel free to correct me. (Sorry about the colloquialism "plods"

Yes they can.

Arrests can be made by people other than the police but should be approached with caution. Making an arrest is potentially dangerous, and the police do not actively encourage people to make citizen’s arrests. You do not go to crown court for brawling in the street. You can make an arrest if: * You see someone committing an ‘indictable offence’ * You are certain that someone has already committed an ‘indictable offence’ Indictable offence To make a citizen's arrest the crime must be an ‘indictable offence’, i.e. a serious offence which could be tried in a crown court. Another way to think of indictable offences is as crimes that can result in long prison sentences. Examples of indictable offences are theft, burglary and criminal damage. So, drink-driving would not qualify as it is an offence which would be tried in a magistrates court and only result in a maximum sentence of six months. If you arrest a person who is later judged by the police or the courts not to have committed a ‘serious offence’ then your arrest may be unlawful. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/actionnetwork/A2258462 |

She wasn't driving. She got out of the left hand side of the car.
Don't remember her learning or passing her test. |

She can drive a scooter but she can't drive a car. This is why she wasn't driving and someone else was!
I know Bob and Viv bought her a car for a birthday present the year the Woolpack collapsed on Tricia. I can't remember if she was driving though. |

I don't recall her driving during that incident with Pollard, what I was more concerned about was why she was being the officious one and the 'extra' cop who would have been more superior to her just stood there and let her deal with the situation
![]() Do Specials or trainee police partner each other? Surely, they'd have a more senior colleague with them when on patrol. I think the same may have happened during the factory robbery involving Eli and Marlon, where again she took centre stage and dealt with it. Watch this space everyone, for this time next year they'll be calling her Ma'am
