Grant Mitchell - unsuitable father?
I might just have a bad memory when it comes to eastenders, so if anyone knows a logical answer please say, but I can't understand how Grant got full custody of his daughter when Tiff died, when he's been in prison and is a known violent thug. I know that Tiff's mum wasn't exactly stable, and the dad was an alcy at the time, but wouldn't social services have had big problems with this? It just came to mind because of this spin off Mitchells program that I've seen the bbc are considering..

I don't know much about SS, but im pretty sure that they would have done all they could to place Courtney with the person they thought appropriate at the time.
What's to say Grant aint a changed man now? Just off topic slightly, anyone see the pic of Courtney that Peggy got yesterday???? A pretty 5-ish year old with long dark hair and darkish features- looks the double of Tiff -- only when she left, Courtney didn't look anything like that, and she had light brown hair! |

I guess she could have a tan since they seem to be living in south america (maybe?!) .. I guess the eastenders casting people don't care that much anway, they just want us to remember that she's tiff's daughter!

EE isn't exactly accurate when it comes to things like this
Phil going on about 'getting custody of Louise' when Lisa was still in the square - just wouldn't happen and now he's got her he never even looks at the poor little cow! |

I know, you never see him with her - what was the point in driving Lisa to such despair and depression if he was just going to hand her over to a nanny anyway.. the whole family need sorting out in my opinion, not to mention their good for nothing interfering, sanctimonious mother!

I just think that soaps, as well as being entertaining, should contain an element of real justice
therefore Phil should get a bit more comeback for his destruction of Lisa than some Geordie bird lying to him, Janine would have been ousted from the square years ago, Barry's treatment of Pat should have resulted in a few more home truths for that fat lummox and Ian Beale well, what can I say |

Ah but Grant was a good Dad and he loved his daughter, plus he did leave quite hastily.
BTW I know what Peggy's exit is, if anyone is interested!!!! |

Must be a bad accident if she's going there for a year lol Wonder if that is where Phil goes to then? To make up with his bro? SF |

Phil leaves with Kate - Jack Dalton tries to hire him to kill her but he won't do it and runs off with her I think

The way i see it, If one parent has died SS will push to keep the child with the other parent as much as they can. Plus, he was a good dad and loved her.
Did Tiffs Mum and Dad actually go for custody? It was such a long time ago, i can't remember. The Question i put to you all is, in a years time, will Grant come back with Peggy? |

Depends on whether he has a fall-out with ITV between now and then!

The way I see it, if one parent dies and the remaining parent is not a convicted or suspected child abuser, it's nothing to do with social services.

It would depend entirely on the specifics of the case. The way I see it, if one parent dies and the remaining parent is not a convicted or suspected child abuser, it's nothing to do with social services. In Grant's case, whilst he had previously been in prison, none of his convictions had anything to do with children, and his arrest prior to Tiffany's death was based on Tiffany's lies, hence the case being dropped. Social Services have a statutory duty to protect children, but they have to have just cause/reason/suspicion/evidence in order to start an investigation. There was never any reason for them to suspect Courtney was at risk with her father. Also, the Children Act 1989 acts in the best interest of the child, and the best interests of a child are said to be served by living with its natural parents so long as those parents are "good enough". |

I suspect that a few more Ross Kemp failures at ITV will have him running back to the square!

Unsuitable guys in general
Funny how guys like the Mitchell brothers to name just two can wreck havoc, breaking up marriages, being total youknowwhats and still even get given the time of day.
You get guys like Ian Beale or Barry who get one shovel of misery after another chucked on em, yet when they react in revenge are treated like outcasts and become unliked. |

I know - I find it unbearable.
Phil is evil - totally evil. And they make him out to be some sort of hero. |
