I am of an age when vinyl was the "in thing", you had all these great record labels which were very decorative. My favourite was RAK records - Suzi Quatro and Hot Chocolate, etc. It was a label with a yacht and a nice blue sea all round it.

Any old codgers, like myself, have favourite record labels from the 60's, 70's, 80's, etc.

I didn't have favourites, but I remember Deram, Pye, Vertigo and Apple with its Granny Smith label.

And picture discs - I had Curved Air's 'Air Conditioning'

RCA - Orange, very distinctive.

Island - Pink or white with a cartoon of an island and palm trees.

Polydor - Bright red.

Apple - Always had the apple cut in half on the b side.

Harvest - Pale green with a circular logo.

The labels seemed to suit the artists; Bowie RCA, Slade Polydor etc.

I can even remember the yellow of MGM, black with silver writing of London, the blue with silver writing of Philips and the green of Columbia. Funny thing is, Parlophone seemed to vary their colours - for Adam Faith it was red but for the Beatles, it was black. I think they even had green. Anyone know why or if the colours varied for a reason?

Rocket was pretty good (ELton John/Judie Tzuke) --- picture of a steam train tearing along near mountains I think? Let's not forget the original HMV either (showing my age here!) --- loved that dog!
Also liked Mercury (Rush) --- tasteful black and silver with the Mercury logo in a small black-and-silver oval...

My favourite label has always been the Warner Brothers one circa mid 70's (Frankie Valli and the four seasons) with the painting of the entrance to Warner Bros. Its was all done in light pastel colours.

I remember F Beat, but not the design. Fontana had very distinctive lettering on their label and Tamla Motown did too, usually on a black background. Mustn't forget the Rolling Stones' own label either, the background was usually yellow with this famous logo.

London American had nearly all the big US hits in the late 50's and 60's .The labels were silver and black and the sleeves were blue and white stripes...the nos all started HL and then another letter to denote the original US label e.g. HL W denoted an original Jamie recording.

Warner Bros were red with colours in the middle so that when the record revolved it looked good. The first Warner Bros record was Cathy's Clown by the Everly Bros...The British equivalent movie label was Top Rank records which were red and white.

Columbia were green with coloured circles on the sleeve

I'd better stop now and start thinking about getting a life before its too late

I liked the original Virgin label, with the Roger Dean dragon.

Also The Famous Charisma label, with the singing Mad Hatter.

Ooh, a man after my own heart! I'm a collector and I love record labels...CD's don't have the same magnetism somehow.

Casablanca (I had a kiss version)
Vertigo was cool (both the Bridget Riley swirl and the spaceship label)
Loved the Postcard records cat too..
What about the red and yellow Pye International?
Capitol was classy
Reprise too, with matching sleeve

I lived in Ireland and EMI was green, I also remember being fascinated when Epic changed from orange to yellow on blue.

I remember thinking that my old Who records never looked the same after they switched from their own Track Records to Polydor. I liked Deep Purples own label too, I have somewhere one of their late 60's albums on the Tetragrammaton label.

Pye Records....That was a pinkish colour wasn't it?
