Hollyoaks - Wednesday 4th July 2007
Max pays Clare an unexpected visit. With her nurse gone, Clare is alone, vulnerable and very scared. Max demands that Clare speaks to Social Services and Tom, so that she can put right all the wrong that she has done so far. Max threatens to poison Clare and finish the job; without Tom he has nothing to lose. Clare claims that Max is too weak-minded to do anything to her and warns him that she could change her statement to the police to say it was Max that attacked her and not Warren. Max loses his temper and attacks Clare – but will he be able to ever get Tom back?
Nana McQueen is busy fussing over Mercedes and telling her how proud she is. Her opinions of Myra and Jacqui are slightly more scathing and it might not be too long before Nana outstays her welcome. Russ is out job hunting and Mercedes clearly has high hopes as she books appointments to view a number of luxury flats. Later, an upbeat Russ returns home with a new job. Mercedes is ecstatic until she realises that it's not quite the high-powered job she'd hoped for. Father Raymond arrives at the McQueens' to run through the wedding vows with Mercedes and Russ. Mercedes starts to feel guilty about sleeping with Warren and asks for a moment alone with the priest. As she confesses to the priest, she admits that she is torn between her love for Russ and the knowledge that an innocent man will go to prison. As she battles with her conscience – which will she choose? Calvin goes to see Louise. She's in a bad way and explains that she has closed Evissa until further notice. Calvin asks her what she remembers about the night of Clare's attack. She again reiterates that she can't remember anything from that night. Louise tells Calvin that she's got nobody to talk to. He invites her back to his. Calvin tells Louise that if she did push Clare then it was only justice and that Warren will get everything he deserves if found guilty. He also tells her that if Warren is found not guilty, they will both be suspects. So in order to protect themselves, they should use each other as alibis. The pair end up in bed together, but Calvin instantly realises he's made a mistake. Calvin may lie to the police to protect them both, but he certainly doesn't want to be with Louise. Discuss tonight's episode here.

A really good episode tonight.
The Max/Claire scenes were the best. It was a delight to see Claire get her commeupance and it was a bit like a role-reversal with Claire in bed helpless, and Max being the dominant one. It was very clever how it was done. I thought it was also very clever how Claire threatened to change her statement and say Max pushed her. The McQueens stuff was also very good. Nana McQueen is a good addition and it's clear that she thinks Mercedes is perfect, opposed to the rest of the family. She's clearly biased towards Mercedes and thinks she is a great girl. Mercedes was less annoying tonight and I admired her confession to the Father about her sleeping with Warren - it was nice to see her being honest for a change. A nice moment was when Jacqui stood up to Nana and Mercedes and called them both selfish - she was clearly sticking up for the rest of the family and it was a nice touch. The Louise/Calvin scenes were also good. It was good to see Calvin and Louise form a pact and decide on an alibi. I really felt sympathy for Louise at the end of the episode when Calvin revealed that he only wanted to provide her with an alibi and nothing else. 8/10 |

Thought the Claire and Max scenes were very good. I hope it wasn't Max or OB that pushed her as I think the Max/OB is the best (non) marriage on the soap.
Hmm as for Louise - Roxanne McKee looked tiny tonight - I know she is a slim girl but she looked painfully thin. |

Great episode!
Clare/Max Loved the allusion to the Christmas saga, with Clare now helpless and bedridden, and Max in control. Must admit I did feel sorry for her during the tomato soup part, but it's thoroughly deserved. Max was very scary and convincing. Very well done.Nana McQueen's just a trampy Vera Duckworth - can't stand her - but it's nice to have her in the family dynamic and she could be the catalyst for future confrontations/secrets. How anyone can think Mercedes is the best is beyond me. Loved Jacqui telling it straight. It was also nice to see a more emotional side under the rough and common exterior of Mercedes, during the confession. She has a conscience after all! I hope she does the right thing and provides the alibi for Warren. I really feel sorry for Louise

Why was Mercy confessing to the Father? Didn't Myra tell him after Jacqui's wedding that all the kids were Atheists except Carmel?

What has happened to Louise? She is turning from a strong, feisty character to a weak character who whines all the time.
