Avoiding unnecessary wiring to numerous phones/SKY point
Not sure if this is the right place for my question but be gentle with me if it's not as this is my first post.
For historic (read business) reasons I have two telephone lines into the house, one from BT (my employer pays the bill) one from NTL (now Virgin). In the near future I will be migrating to a single line and I will be paying the bill so would like it to be the BT line. Currently I have one phone and a Wireless ADSL Modem/router attached to the BT line which enters the house in my upstairs study. The Virgin line has been the "private" phone line. This supports the master phone/answerphone hub and two cordless phone extensions plus the Sky+ box and the additional Sky Multiroom receiver. The Virgin line enters the house on the ground floor (where all but one cordless phone are sited) and we have various cables running under the carpets to "service" this equipment. My question is a simple one... Are there any devices out there such as a wireless hub (or some other such device) that will enable me to connect the various equipment listed above to the one BT line without running/resiting various physical cables through the house? Thanks in anticipation. |

The One For All SV1550 might do the job.
It basically transmits the phone signal digitally through the mains wiring. There are downsides however. In theory you can connect eight "slaves" to one "master" device plugged into the phone line. So you could have eight extension phones connected up if you want. However they don't sell just the "slave" units so you could end up with a shed load of "master" units that you have no use for! And at £50 a pair that is a lot of wasted cash! They don't work with ADSL so cannot be used to extend your broadband connection to another room. They don't work with Sky+ only "ordinary" Sky (quite what the difference is i have no idea!) But it looks like there are very few options if you really do not want to tack a bit of wire round the skirting board. |
