I've been banging my head against the wall trying to get my (and a newly created) Sipgate VoIP account working on my new Nokia E65, but don't seem to be having any luck.

I was wondering if anybody had any luck with this yet?

I'm hearing some people have had to get rid of the Vodafone/Orange firmware and put the generic Nokia one back on there (is this true)?

I spoke to Vodafone and they say it should work and that they have not dissabled the VoIP.

Once I've set everything up it just fails to register.

I can browse the Internet ok via WiFi, so that side of it is ok.

Cheers, Mark.

I've got an E65 on 3, and have no problem making calls from it using a number of VOIP providers (including Sipgate. If you log into their website they provide a step-by-step guide to setting up their service on the E65).

However, I have yet to be able to receive any VOIP calls on the E65, except when using fring (you may want to give it a try), in which case I can receive calls for a few minutes after fring has logged on, but not after that.

Just a last thought.. are you trying to use VOIP via your own router or via Vodafone? If it's the latter, could they be blocking VOIP?

This sounds like a blocked/closed ports problem. The initial registration leaves opens up the UDP port to register with the SIP proxy. After a few minutes, the router closes it again, so any incoming packets notifying a 'ring' do not get through. Making outgoing calls is usually no problem since the outgoing packets opens the port again.

You need to set-up port forwarding on your router to forward any incoming UDP packets on port 5060 (or whatever port the SIP client on the handsets is listening on) to the IP address of the handset. If you're on Sipgate, you can find out the port number when you log-in and looks at the 'device details'. This may also solve the OP's problem of not being able to register (I don't have a Nokia phone myself but have encountered similar problems on other phones).
