Which Satnav?

Hi,
I would like to get a Sat Nav system, but I'm unsure on which one to get.
I like the look of the Navman N20 & N40i.
With Tesco, you get free speed camera software, as a download for the iCN series.
Can you get it free for the N Series?

Get a Tom tom, they are the most popular and best seller for a reason. Easy to use, quick and reliable. Navmans are fiddly to operate and take yonks to boot up.

Definately a tom tom

I've had one for over three years now - so it's really out-of-date now - and it's perfect

It's never played up and it's really door to door

Me and the other half used to argue all the time about directions however since we've had one it's never let us down - bliss!

I'd go for a Tom Tom too. Dead easy to use and easy to update.

If you want Speed Camera info, then check out http://www.pocketgpsworld.com you have to pay £20 per year for the database, but it's probably the most accurate and up to date camera db available. Plus if you report a new camera then you get a free subscription for 20 years (I just got one ).

Also recommend TomTom and PocketGPSWorld's speed camera database.

Though some of us never had to subscribe ever

Question to those who have a Tom Tom ONE (v2) - what is the mount like that you get with it? I want to buy this one, but there's some reviews on Amazon etc where the mount keeps falling off the windscreen? Did you buy an alternative one to use with the sat nav?

A year ago i purchased a Road Angel navigator plus the Euro maps total price £550, Then 3 months later was given a new Honda Accord with Satnav with TMC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_Message_Channel

Would not be without this brilliant Driving tool.

2 Weeks ago i purchased a Ford Galaxy to use as my Own company car (Saves Tax) So i've given the Road Angel to my wife and i have spent the last Week pondering all new systems to include TMC.

Prices have dropped and the Navman seems to offer a big range plus there is a TMC adaptor.

I fancy the N Series available at amazing prices from

http://www.mynewcheap.co.uk/products...sat-nav/10316/

I need a bigger screen because of the Galaxy's huge dash and the Satnav is a fair way from you. Navman has a big range of systems for everyone.

What ever you decide take your time and think what you want from a Satnav.

I bought my TomTom 510 from Currys before last Christmas when they were doing a special bundle of 510 plus TMC receiver at a very good price.

I used the TMC device for a couple of months before I gave up on it totally and signed up for TomTom's traffic service that uses a Bluetooth connection to a mobile phone to connect via GPRS to download the info.

Much much much more reliable than TMC! I found reception of TMC was absolute rubbish most of the time. It didn't seem to matter where I positioned the receiver there were simply large parts of a regular trip I make where I simply had no signal ever. Which considering I was running up the M40, hardly some country back lane, is not very good really!

I'm just glad that Currys threw the thing in for free. If I had payed out the 65 quid or whatever it costs I would be well p'ed off! For the same money I can get three years (almost) subscription to TomTom Traffic.

I still use the old Garmin i3 - which you can get for about £89 now - haven't had any problems with it.

Can also download speed camera locations to it (available for £2 from http://www.pocketgpsworld.com)

For Sat Nav I have had

Navman icn 330, it asked for the borough name rather than the town name, I only used around London and the surrounding areas so not sure about further than that, but it was clear and never gave me any problems.

Tomtom mobile and tomtom GO, sometimes told me to turn right when no right turn, most noticably at Clapham Common heading into city.

Route 66, Chicago 7000, also RAC, by far the best of all the sat navs I have used, has free built in traffic reports, free online updates to software and free online safety cameras. Huge screen 4.5", thin, very good battery life, and loud and fast. Just type in the road name for anywhere in the whole country and it will find it all fast.
Plus in the list it has all the railway stations, petrol stations, all the POI's Post offices, food restaurants, all when you just type in the road name.

ViaMichellin x950, oh dear this was slow, also doesn't work on windows vista for downloads.

NAV4ALL free for most mobile phones but always was crashing and had to pay for per usage a few pennies a time.

Garmin streetpilot i3 An old one but was good and fast, works on AA batteries or supplied car charger, just type in the first few letters and scroll to the town and road name.

Road Angel 6000, was fine but the unit I had was with a dodgy USB cable so couldnt enable speed cams but it was fine for sat nav.

Hope this helps.

Just used our TomTom 510 to drive from Aberdeen to Warwickshire and I must say it went very smoothly.

*although when it re-routes after you take a wrong turn it doesn't tell you. It would be helpful to know if you have deviated from the original route*
