hmmm don't think thats a very good idea to be honest. The role is quite similar to Maria in that its a fairly traditional soprano lead with substantial acting. If anything it is an even more demanding role than Maria (at least vocally).
Doing something so similar so soon after Maria is obviously going to result in less talent, as many of the more talented actresses who perhaps auditioned for Maria have probably moved on to bigger and better things. In fact I can think of a few Maria finalists who would suit the part (Leanne for example).
I wish ALW would give this thing a break for a couple of years and stop treating it like a money machine.

Rant over ”
The loser each week could sing a bit of the Ascot Gavotte:
"Faces flushing, pulses rushing,
My name's missed off...
I have never been so pissed off!"
Memo to BBC:
Do not touch this idea with a bargepole. 'Find a West End star' has now been done to death, and even if it hadn't 'My Fair Lady' is not a good choice.
Off the top of my head, I can't think of another suitable show. Oklahoma, West Side Story, South Pacific, Annie get your gun, A chorus line, Cats, Godspell? Nah.
No way, it's only a few years since it had a massive run (remember Martine McCutcheon was supposed to be in it, she turned up a few nights, then went sick).
Unless they are going to do it in another city or as a tour, it's too fresh in the regular London theatre-going crowd's memories.

I forget the name but didn't that C4 show already do Chicago, before Joseph and before SOM? I think it was only for a few performances, but nevertheless the prize was to appear in Chicago.

Musicality is the one you're thinking of. It was a bit different, in that there was no public vote and I think the prize was just a one-off performance.

Please don't let Martine McCutcheon be a judge..(! !).

FYI - big tour last year with Amy Nuttall as Eliza. So it's been 'done' everywhere recently. Therefore any programme would be a Very Bad Idea.

Perhaps Martine McCutcheon could enter. Although, of course, she'd only be able to appear in about three of the twelve finalist shows, citing "illness" - yeah, right, Martine - as an excuse while still being photographed going to nightclubs every night.
I really want them to do Sunset Boulevard - it would be so fab to give the more mature ladies a chance to shine, and they could cast for the hot young male lead at the same time. It would give JB the chance he's longing for to pontificate endlessly about when he played the role, too!
Personally, for sheer popularity, I don't think they are going to beat ADWD for several years, so they should think up a completely different competition.
