It is all in the title.

I have itunes but if i download something I can't put it onto my kids MP3's. Anyone suggest how?

(I am a complete technophobe so simple instructions would be appreciated!)

In iTunes, click the Edit menu and select Preferences.

Select the Advanced tab.

Change the Import Using drop-down box to MP3 Encoder.

Click OK.

Select the tracks you want to convert to MP3.

Click the Advanced menu and select Convert Selection to MP3.

Wait until the conversion is complete. The original iTunes files are unaffected.

You'll need to import these MP3s into whatever application your kid's MP3 player synchronises with.

I don't know if this conversion method works with protected iTunes files though. Also, as this conversion is from one lossy format to another, there might be a slight degradation in quality.

Hope this helps.

It doesn't work with protected files since they're protected. If you want them in mp3 you have to burn them to cd then back to mp3 with ensuing quality loss. iTunes plus files can be directly converted should you so wish and will suffer less loss since there are fewer steps and are higher quality in the first place.

Thanks very much for the advice.

It says that converting doesnt work for things bought from the itunes store.

I guess I need to buy from elsewhere.

Thanks, anyway.

You need to burn the files to CD then import the disk as MP3 (see post #3). You can do this with all songs from the itunes store.

But for best quality and 100% compatibility... buy the CD !

btw, Itunes is the only online music store that works on a iPod. Cheaper (non-apple) MP3 players can play DRM-WMA which is what every other online music store uses.
