32" ONN LCD at Asda
Does anybody have any info on this TV?
I was in there shopping the other day, in a bit of a hurry, and just managed to get a quick glance at it. 32", 720p £349. I liked the styling, and am considering buying it, as it ticks the boxes for me (VGA in for my X360), but obviously I would like to hear the opinions of some people who know what they're on about first. |

Cheers for that. I haven't been able to Google anything on it, which immediately made me unsure. I will pop in this week when I have a bit of time to prod and poke around.

Onn is just a badge that Asda use on cheap crap, so you don't know who makes any particular product - the Onn Freeview box I have is a Vestel product, the TV 'may' be the same? - as Vestel make cheap LCD sets.

You wonder sometimes though whether it is worth buying something expensive.
We bought a Sharp Aquos 32" after Christmas and had nowt but bother with it. Discovered a line down it which is most prominent on football and cricket matches. Had to contact Sharp direct. Had three visits so far from an engineer who replaced several bits. It has now developed a buzzing as well as the line still being there. They are now promising a new one but each time we contact them they promise to ring back but they don't! Thinking now it would have been better buying a cheap one and accepting that it will not last long. |

I took back a £450" LCD last year and got a full refund with no hassle. Took less than 10 minutes
Either way, i'd never buy electrical items from a supermarket. My local Asda is full of Vestel/Beko crap, oh, and a Sony 32" A12 (Yes Nigel!) at £999...

ONN is a trademark owned by Asda themselves. As a previous post stated the TV is actually made by Vestel.
At best you are getting an average product in terms of picture quality. |

Thanks everybody! I have plumped for this one from Intekx after reading good things about it over at AVforums. The ONN from ASDA wasn't in stock anywhere locally so perhaps I got lucky!

Yes, I've seen some Sony in Asda, plus Sharp LCD's as well.
I do very much like the new D series though, especially the fact they've dumped that awful remote! |

I brought a 17" ONN LCD for our bedroom about a year ago - and the picture was brilliant.
However, it packed up after about 5 weeks - so it had to go back. And the sound was awful too. We choose to get a replacement for the broken set, because we liked the look of it, and we were prepared to see if our problem had just been a one off. The new one didn't even last 3 weeks. ASDA were very good and gave us a refund, no questions asked - but I wouldn't touch another ONN LCD, or any cheapo LCD again. |

How have you gotten on with that TV? I see a 27 inch AOC LCD on there, which is plenty big enough for my bedroom.

I bought a 32" LCD ONN TV for my son for his birthday, got home with it 150 miles!!! worked intially but after only 1 week the remote control stopped working, phoned the customer service only to be told that they had no remotes in stock and I would have to wait 2 months for them to get some in!!
I thought this was totally unacceptable and the chap on the other end of my call, told me that I could return my TV to the store where I purchased it ..... I replied that this was a 300 mile round trip, his reply .. Sorry Madam thats your only option! So I returned TV to store and demanded a refund... Will never buy ONN products ever again!

ONN are only a brand, they're made (mainly) by Vestel, who make most of the budget TVs.

Sorry to keep you all hanging. Had this telly for about a fortnight now, absolutely bloody loving it so far. Have had no problems with it at all yet (touch wood). I have my Toppy connected via RGB SCART, looks great, aside from slightly more noticeable pixellation on some of the lower bandwidth channels. I have my XBOX 360 connected via composite (couldn't get it working via VGA, kept telling me the signal was out of range). It looks mind-blowing!! Oblivion has never looked better.
I have my PC connected via a DVI-HDMI cable, which after a bit-of-faffing I got to look good. (I was going around the houses using Powerstrip to set custom resolutions, all of which looked blurry or fuzzy. In the end it turned out nVidia Control Panel had a 720p option, which left it smooth and crisp.) I can now get rid of my PC trolley and CRT monitor, get back a bit of room real estate. I have so far noticed none of the problems I used to associate with LCD's; no ghosting, no blurring, and to my eyes the blacks look nice and black. Watching 720p video clips either via PC, or XBOX has been great, really the next-gen experience I had been hoping for. I was resigned to the fact that with the slim form factor, the speakers would be a little weedy, but again pleasantly surprised. They are good and loud (I have only ventured a quarter of the way up the volume bar) and there is decent bass response, which I did not expect. Once more, I was expecting a flimsy remote control, but was again pleased. If anybody has ever owned a Thomson DHD4000 (or, I suspect, other Thomson products) then the remote will be familiar. Solid enough, sometimes the buttons require a firm press, but no major gripes. PIP and POP are great features. I am used to PIP with the Toppy, but the picture is so clear on this that I can read the EPG on the Toppy when it is in the PIP window!! All in all, I am well pleased with my purchase, and seeing as I sold my old 32" CRT for a ton, it didn't hit my pockets too hard either. |
