Trnsferring and Saving Mini DV footage.

We have several 1 hour tapes of Mini DV footage that we never seem to get round to editing (but will of course. . . one day!).

I would like to free up the tape space by transferring the footage onto a back up hard drive or DVD but I still want to be able to use that footage to edit later on - something that is a lot easier if I can preserve the chapter stops that would be there if I was dumpng it into an editing program. Is this still possible if I am just saving the raw footage as one big file per tape?

Can someone on this "marvelous tell tell you anything share knowledge" forum answer a question for me?
I have years experience in capturing video and saving to hard drive editing and using adobe premiere/final cut/windows movie maker however what I do not know is if I capture and edit a piece of footage how can I prepare and optimise this for storage or playback on my mobile phone?
Generally I use windows movie maker for capture of all my "non serious" work as there is a vast choice of capture formats to choose.
I am not sure which one is the right one to use and if I have existing works that I want to transfer to my mobile how do I convert them?
I use Nokia 6233 and connect to my laptop via bluetooth. I notice that Nokia recorded footage can only be played back on the PC with the nokia software and is very very jumpy.
How do I turn works into Nokia footage to send via mms messaging or just to have in my pocket to amuse others at family gatherings and stuff?

Capture to your pc in either mpeg or full DV. Edit it as you please then convert when it comes to rendering. You need the 3GPP file format (or similar e.g. there is a version 2 of 3GP out now).

Some home editions of software can do it. I think either Pinnacle Studio 11 Plus or Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0

Hi digimon

With greatest respect intended - any chance you could start your own thread about your topic - you've kind of hijacked mine!

eddie --> why not just capture it with a video editing program now and just leave it there until you are ready to edit it?
