good evening all.

I am after buying an ipod this month, but wondered if a new nano would be relased soon, and if so should i wait?

also i am stuck between the 4gb & 8gb. I think I'll get a 8gb but its the BLACK colour that has made my decison lol

Those iPods came out in september, which means they're coming up to their 1st birthday. It's not a smart buy..Unless you're planning on keeping it for a while. No one knows whats coming next with the Nano.

Just because something newer may be out soon, it doesn't mean the current product has had its day. The current iPod nano is an excellent bit of kit and I'd recommend it to anyone.

They tend to be updated a few months before christmas - so I'd put money on it being september/october time again like the past two years - but there's no way to tell for sure!

I read somewhere that the new iPod generation would be around Easter next year, not sure where I read this, but it does seem like a good time, it will be 1 and a half years sinse the last update. Apple seem to be concentrating on iPhone at the mo.

Constructive comment there.

Apple are now giving these away with their laptops. They did this with the previous generation, and with the iPod mini. A few months later they were replaced. I'm also debating buying a 4GB Red iPod at the moment.

They just brought out the iPhone, so it wont be for a while, and its likely to be after they release a new version of the normal iPod...current model is only slightly less old than the previous generation nano...

I'm just expecting a slight design change..Hopefully still staying with the iPod Mini looks, and bigger storage as standard.

I just bought a Black 8GB iPod Nano.. I dont partically want to wait for an "upgraded" edition... the current one is fine for me.. small enough for my pocket, has a good capacity and sounds great. what else do I need? why would you want to wait for an upgraded model that will probably do the same thing. how much smaller can these ipods get anyway?

Thats what i've been debating. I love the size of my 1G Nano..Just the design is rubbish. That, with a better screen and a better case is ideal for me. Which is why I want a 2G one.

Many people don't want to buy something that they believe is very likely to become outdated within a few months.

Nobody knows what will be in the next version, but it could be lighter, stronger, have a bigger screen, have more capacity, be cheaper or come in different colours. New functionality might also be present.

For those that don't really need the product quickly (perhaps they want it for Christmas), waiting may pay off.

Of course, there are many more people that don't worry about the possibility of a new product and are happy to get the current model.
