Genesis at Twickenham
To anyone that went to this particular gig.
Did you enjoy it and what was your favourite song? (mine was Drum Duet and Los Endos) If you have been to other Genesis gigs (my first time) how did it compare? |

I went to the Twickenham concert and enjoyed it a lot. My personal highlight was Second Home by the Sea, which pretty much blew my head off. It just really packed a punch last night. I hadn't seen Genesis before as I got into them in 2000.
I wasn't that impressed by the mix, to be honest. I was seated on the ground (block C5) and the sound was dominated by bass; the vocals and high-end aspects were a bit drowned out. I get the impression that it was better for those seated around the stadium on the stands; I think we were kind of soaking up the bass for 'em. ![]() The set list was really good. I liked how they put the new In the Cage medley going into Afterglow quite early on in the gig, rather than being more predictable and having it in the third quarter. It was like they were offering a reappraisal of such pieces, and taking them out of context a bit. The concert didn't follow the Three Sides Live route or anything, if you know what I mean. Phil was on form; not too much chat in between songs save for the "ghosts in the wall" speech and the standard Domino intro! He was really cool, and I think the audience responded particularly well to him. |

Was at Twickenham last night, great concert, we were lucky to be in the front block A3 and although it rained it was a brilliant night and great set. My highlights were Domino and Home By The Sea. I saw Genesis on the We Cant Dance tour at Knebworth and Earls Court and they are just as good now as they were then. Lets hope they go back into the studio after this tour and make some more music ! Would have like to have heard Dreaming While You Sleep or Driving The Last Spike though.

I went to Twickers last night and thought it was stunning.
We were on the pitch and a long way back from the stage (Block D2 Row 10) - so the view wasn't great. At least we could fully appreciate the light show from there! My favourite of the night was the In The Cage Medley. Afterglow made me blub into my new Genesis T Shirt (embarrassing) and the rain bought my arthritis on (painful) - but what the heck. Overall the gig was not as atmospheric as Knebworth but it was still a night to remember. |

I took my two teenagers with me this time. Frightening to think that I was expecting my eldest when I last saw this line up play
![]() We were in the West stand, block 105, a bit too near the stage to fully appreciate the whole set and light show due to the angle we were at, but a good view of the side screen! We didn't get rained on either - wasn't until Phil effed about it that we realised it was raining. I don't think any Genesis concert will ever top the first one I saw, which was Knebworth in 1978 when 'And Then There Were Three' was their latest release and therefore the first album I really got into. But this concert came very close - sound was great, would personally have preferred to be feeling the vibrations from the bass on the floor, there's nothing quite like the feeling of that in your legs; and I'd have enjoyed partying with some of those leaping around at the sides of the aisles down there. We were sitting with a very staid bunch who barely twitched all the way through. It didn't stop me though and my hands were bruised from all the clapping when I got home.I'm really hoping they will be encouraged by the speed at which these gigs sold out (reputedly all gone in 90 minutes) and do some more shows, very very soon. Even Mr Sad has been playing Genesis tracks this week and that's unheard of. And my daughter's definitely converted. I'd have preferred In too Deep to Hold on My Heart; or Many too Many, from And Then there were 3, instead. I also have a very soft spot for Undertow, Snowbound and The Lady Lies from that album. For me the highlights were I know What I like, the drum duet, Ripples, and seeing my daughter's face light up for Invisible Touch, which she loves. ![]() It was all brilliant and I want to re-live it. CD duly ordered. I know there were bootleg cds of the 1978 Knebworth gig but never got one. Fairly sure they broadcast it on the Beeb, too. *goes off to search ebay*

I would say that with the exception of Knebworth in 1978, that was easily the best Genesis gig I've been to and I've been to a few over the years.
Sadly, I felt that Twickenham was a poor choice of venue given the seating, travel and parking problems that some people experienced. A lot of my fellow Genesis forum members who purchased tickets during the 24 hour pre-sale seem to have bought tickets for seating that was less than ideally suited. Given the stage/screen design, some of those on the stands had a limited view of the gig. This was a real shame as the main screen was a major part of the whole show. Especially the running man graphics played during In The Cage. |

My parents went, my Dad's two favourite songs in the world are Los Endos and Ripples, so when I went to pick them up he was still mesmerized (asked Mum if she'd slipped him any pills ....) and humming along.
Soon changed when it took me two hours to get out of Twickenham and back towards Kingston... GRRRRRRR......

That's exactly what my workmate who also went said,he couldn't understand people getting up and wandering back and forth to the bar etc. As you say a Genesis show doesn't come around every five minutes, and we may never get the opportunity to see them again.
Being on an end of a row we kept having to get up and down for these idiots. And I ended up feeling quite resentful towards the ones on the pitch who were just wandering around and not even looking at the stage - why bother going? Just so you can say you were there I suppose |

I was gazing at the stage and screens for two and a half hours solid; couldn't take my eyes off the band.

It's the inconsiderate ones who decide to go and get a round of drinks and force you all to stand up and get out of their way during one of your favourite tracks that wind me up... and why are there always a whole bunch of them, not just one? The bar would sell 4 pints per person so no reason at all to keep getting up during the show, and the bar was deserted when we got there at 6pm... grrrrr

The first time I saw Phil n the Boys was in 1978 when they were due to play the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane. The ticket announcement was made over the radio at short notice - no newspaper advertisement in those days!
I got to the theatre at 8.00am and already the queue was twice around the block and it was looking doubtful that I would be getting those prized tix. ![]() but I queued and queued and I wasn't going to give up until I was told TO MY FACE by the box office that it was sold out........I was queuing for over 6 hours, just inching along the pavement waiting in a line - didn't dare leave to go and get a drink or go for a weewee!! ![]() suddenly a ripple went amongst the queue that another date was being arranged!! Theorganisers hadn't realised how popular Genesis was going to be and the unprecedented ticket demand! sooooooooo..... I carried on queuing - added impetus to not give up! and approximately 8 hours later, I had two tickets in my hot little hand for the Lyceum Ballroom in the Strand ![]() ![]() and what a fab night it was! ![]() I last saw Genesis at Wembley - the Turn it on Again tour... queuing to get in at the entrance was a complete and typical Wembley Stadium shambles (no change there then anyhoo whilst waiting there, right at the back of the queue, I could see security mooching back and forth, inspecting tickets etc when I heard a car horn beeping us to move aside... I thought to myself, what prat would try to get through about 1,000 people to get in the stadium? turned around to see a bashed up and battered blue BMW car, window down, arm stuck out......looked again and it was Phil and Jill (the second ex-wife ) sitting at the wheel driving in!I just called out "'ello Phil, you're on in a minute...." and he looked up and shook his head, despairing that he was going to be late and carried on beeping the car horn to move people out of the way ![]() Would have loved to have gone to Twick - couldn't get "disabled seating" - basstads!
