Just to let you all know that according to the 'Engineering Channel Download Schedule', it looks like there is going to be a download on the 20th July - although no version number has been mentioned.

In the decription, it just says 'PVR 160 Digihome', but I assume it will do the Asda 801 and PVR80 at well.

Thank you!

I wonder where we twin-recorders stand on this if the download contains something useful?

Hmmm--might I be getting twin record for my PVR80?

That's a fair assumption, I think. I just missed the last 5.3 update when it was broadcast earlier this year but, as far as I know, it did go to all flavours of the box. It makes sense that the identifier used by the OAD has to reflect the core T810 model number rather than the way its been rebadged.

Perhaps those who caught the earlier update can confirm which version of the box it got to?

I suspect it will only be a repeat or a minor update: Furaura has been pestering Vestel to arrange another 5.3 broadcast. (Of course, like everyone else I'd be happy if it turns out to be a new twin record, Freeview Playback certified version....!!!!)

I have the 0207 version of the digihome with an upgraded hard drive (160gb), and was wondering if i had to do anything e.g. tune into a specific channel and switch into standby or will the box just do it all its self???

Hi,

Will the pvr pick this update up automatically, or do I need to do something on 20th July?

Does anyone know? Those up and coming software download schedules on the dtg engineering download schedule is about as much use as a one legged man in an arse kicking competition. Yes they tell you when it will be, but do they tell you what it will do? Do they fig!!!!

I might switch on the auto download for the 20th, see what it is, and if its no good, turn it back off and re-install the twin tuner 1.0 version.

I seem to recall in the 'twin record' thread someone stating that v1.0 twin record is not affected by OTA updates of the single record version (but can't find it at the moment ).

Anyway, I think I'm going to leave the auto update off for the time being, see what the feedback is on the update (someone here is bound to report back - please? ) and if it's good, put the auto-update on to catch the upgrade. There is a 71 hour window to aim for (10:00 20/7 to 9:00 23/7) so I presume it's broadcast continuously throughout that period.

Here's hoping for something spectacular!

Update from the DTG page:

The Vestel update is for the T816 and is version 3.7

The version number seems strange as the latest version is supposed to be v5.3 (I currently only have v4.9).

Weird.....

Ah! Most models are T810 clones, where the latest version is 5.3. The T816 is a different model. I'm not sure what clones are based on that - maybe some of the newer 160GB models? Most recent clones do still seem to be T810 based.

Anyhow, from what has been reported in the past, the firmware for T816 models are different and not compatible with the T810 so only T816 models will get it. It will be interesting to see if anyone on the forum gets it (ie which models are T816 based).

Most strange. v3.7 for T816 makes sense though, in the sense that my T816 box is running v3.4 (not freeview playback compliant - i.e. no accurate recording, unlike the v1.0 twin record software for the T810). Perhaps Vestel are testing the auto update feature of the T816 box to make sure it works, since all the updates I've applied in the past have been via serial cable. Or maybe it is an error on the DTG page.

AFAIK there is no single record software for T816 boxes, so the question is where can T816 boxes be found in retail??? I'd certainly recommend them over the T810. T816 boxes don't necessarily look any different to T810 boxes, btw - but the sticker on the underside should indicate what type it is

This may indicate, as I mentioned in another thread, that Argos will be stocking T816 Digihomes in their new catalogue, hence why they've reduced the prices for their end of catalogue sale (all 3 Argos branches here are out of stock of both the PVR80 and PVR160). IIRC, it's a year ago since the Digihome (T810) first appeared at Argos.

Tesco are now selling Technika (their own make) 160gb T816 boxes for £129.95, with Freeview Playback and a software version something like 1.1.25.

Ideal World 2-3 months back were selling what appeared to be Digihome clones, but crucially had automatic live buffering, and you could back record from it. Might this have been a version of the T816?

I thought we deduced those were not Digihome/Vestel clones? IIRC, there was no interactivity on those boxes. And the T816 software doesn't have automatic live buffering, from what I've seen (it's moreorless the same as the T810 v1.0 twin record software). I'll reserve judgement until I see v3.7, but IMO the v3.4 T816 software isn't up to scratch, compared to the single record software (mainly when it comes to setting timers which is nowhere near as nice and intelligent as the single record software). Hopefully it has been improved in v3.7, although I have been trying to drill this point into Vestel for the past few months.

I checked again in my local Tesco today and the software version is actually 2.4.

You may be thinking of the more recent Isaku, from Price-drop tv. You're right that it turned out not to be Vestel (more like the Tevion, functionally).

The Ideal World one was unmistakably one of the Digihome family, but it's identity was never resolved.

Ah, yeah, that's probably it. Wouldn't it be nice if all these T810 and T816 units were marketed under just one brand???

It would, but there's marketing for you. The added value of branding, or in this case anonymity.

AFAIK The 816T has very slightly different software to T810. so it will not be the Freeview playback or S/W V1 for the T810

Indeed. The T816 that I have (built around March, IIRC) is slightly different. The one definite difference I know of is that it has a 64Mb dram chip onboard, whereas the T810 has 32Mb. I do know that the T810 software will not load onto my T816, so I very much doubt the T816 software will work on a T810 (so much so that I've not even bothered to try myself, just in case I kill my T810 ).

On a perhaps more positive note, I see that they is another new Vestel download listed as coming soon on the DTG site. So maybe this is one for T810 models.

I hope it is the new S/W V1/ playback etc for the T810 in the later months
