Hi,

I phoned BT to go back to their line rental, however, I was told that I needed to take a package from them. I chose the evening and weekend bundle for £1.75 per month on top of my line rental. I was told the reason the new thing is because BT don't own the exchanges anymore, its openreach wjho deals with that and because it is a different franchise they will not make any money from this. I thought this was fair enough.

The guy told me that BT are currently in talks with OFCOM about Sky selling its phone service as people who have been with BT for less than 12 months will be charged a cancellation charge.

Does anyone know if this is true or is it just a bad sales trick by BT?

Thanks

it's bt wholesale who own the exchanges, openreach just maintain the cable from the exchanges to your house like transco with gas. i recently re-activated my bt line chose option 1 then got sky talk on no probs. might be pulling a fast one, then again could be somat new introduced.

Sky Talk is only a CPS service, your line rental stays with BT, but your calls are automatically routed through to Sky Talk.

As Sky is only a CPS service and you don't get line rental from Sky, there is no worry about a 12 month contract with BT in that instance as for Sky Talk you have to keep line rental with BT anyway.

You could simply have had BT line rental on the Together 1 package (£10.50 per month paid by DD and paperless) and sign up to Sky Talk for the calls package.

Or the £10.50 line rental with BT and the Primus Saver 2 package from Primus, this gives you for free, free evening and weekend calls to 01 and 02 numbers, this time each call can be up to 90 mins (only 60 on Sky talk) and their daytime rate doesn't kick in until 08:00 (06:00 on BT and Sky) so you get 2 extra hours each weekday of free calls. Also Primus charge per second for chargeable calls and don't have call connection charges, just min call charge.

You can also sign up to Call 18185 for daytime calls at 5p each and calls to mobiles 6p/min weekday and 3p/min weekend.

18185: www.call18185.co.uk
Primus: www.planet-talk.co.uk/saver (Note, you must ask for the free 'free evening and weekend package and make sure you don't sign up for their line rental).
