Pub, theme tune and setting - EE
Corrie wins the rest at the moment, though to be fair acting is variable in both shows - some excellent stuff from helen Worth, June Brown - some awful stuff too!

1.Pub - Rovers Return.
It's warm and friendly and snug. Just how a pub should be. The Queen Vic is too big and bright and busy.

2.Theme tune - EE theme tune or Corrie theme tune
Well the Corrie theme tune has years of experience behind it, but Eastenders wins for those dramatic thuds which mean you know it's going to be a cliffhanger.

3.Male acting ability - EE actors or Corrie actors
Coronation Street. It has some of the most well known, experienced actors in the country: Curly Watts, Mike Baldwin, Ken Barlow. Also, I'm fairly certain it has the best new talent too - Joe Carter, David Platt.

4.Female acting ability - EE actresses or Corrie actresses
Coronation street, for the same reason as above. Coronation Street characters always seem much more believable.

5.Humor - EE or Corrie
Well that HAS to go to Coronation Street again. Eastenders is just plain depressing.

6.Setting - Albert Square or Coronation Street
Weatherfield for me is a much more believable setting, I live up North too. Albert Square seems to be stuck in a time hole, nobody has a washing machine and a row breaks out when somebody erects a satellite dish. Coronation Street is just a normal neighbourhood setting.

7.Villain- EE Phil M or EE Trevor or Corrie Richard H
Definately Richard Hillman. In the space of two years Corrie bosses developed a fully three dimensional character who we got to see every side of. Years on in Eastenders, and Phil Mitchell is still a two dimensional thug, steadily turning into his brother Grant.

8.Channel - BBC or ITV
I watch more shows on ITV1 than on BBC1, and presentation-wise, ITV1 wins for me.

9. Variation and intrest of storylines - EE or Corrie
Both soaps vary their storylines and are always trying new things, but for me, Coronation Street has shown it can be successful with all sorts of storylines, from Killer Corrie to Corrie Heat and now the latest goings on. Coronation Street has fully dimensional characters who stay true to their character. Just look at Blanche and her many boyfriends! Excellent stuff.

10. Best soap - EE or Corrie
Coronation Street - that's why they won all those awards! Sexiest Male and Sexiest Female are nothing to be proud of at all. If Coronation Street hired a slapper and a fit bloke to sit silently in the Rovers they'd have won those awards too.

Interesting to see different opinions. Each to their own - but 0 to Corrie and 10 to EE? Even diehard EE fans think Corrie is funnier than EE!!!!

1.Pub - Queen Vic. The Rovers seems a bit of a dingy, backstreet hovel at the best of times.

2.Theme tune - EE theme tune - for the drums and because I can't stand the 'blarey' opening to the Corrie music.

3.Male acting ability - EE actors or Corrie actors. Can't really separate them at the moment. Though I have to question why anyone would hold up Curly Watts as a good example.

4.Female acting ability - EE actresses. Natalie Cassidy, June Brown, Pam St Clements, Kacey Ainsworth, Jessie Wallace. Proven quality.

5.Humor - Corrie. It's always had a comic tradition which EE can't match (though it has improved since Alfie Moon arrived).

6.Setting - Albert Square or Coronation Street. AS probably edges it because it's got a tube link to central London! Other than that, neither really appeal much.

7.Villain- EE Trevor. A truly frightening, brilliantly realised menacing villain whose storyline owed nothing to pantomime.

8.Channel - BBC or ITV. Err....Channel 4. Then BBC.

9. Variation and interest of storylines - EE or Corrie. EE over recent years, Corrie just lately.

10. Best soap - Corrie at the moment. In the longer run I feel EE has had the better writers, storylines and acting.

Corrie have hired slappers and fit blokes and stuck them in the Rovers - thing is people didn't find them as sexy as Kat and Alfie because they didn't have the humour, the attitude and charisma to compete. Credit where it's due, FGS!

I have to ask - is this just a North vs. South thing for some people? Because that's the impression I get from some of the posts in this thread. Just wondering......

I'm in Wales - previously in the Midlands...so should that have put me at 5 for each?

Not sure if its got anything to do with the North/South divide...

Though I must say (no offence) that Emma was getting right on my nerves when she was saying 'tret' instead of 'treat'

(example of line 'I'll be tret like a leper)

But then I get annoyed when people say strenth instead of strength

What!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm i think Steve Mcfadden, Martin Kemp, Shane Richie are more known than the corrie actors. And the females are more well known Barbra Windsor, June Brown. People from EE go on to do other well know things

you're right

Corrie actors are generally known as Corrie actors only - and pretty bad ones

most EE actors are either old faces or go on to bigger and better things

Corrie = actor's death

Although I am HUGE EE fan

I must say that whilst I agree EE actors are better/go onto better things/old famous faces, I must also say that Corrie has done the same too

Bernard Cribbins
Roy Hudd
Ralf Little

Joanna Lumley was in Corrie, as was Davy Jones (The Monkees), I think Ben Kingsley briefly appeared....

Prunella Scales, Martin Shaw, Michael Elphick, Pete Postlethwaite, Kevin Whately as well as many others!

And who can forget the live episode with Prince Charles, Trevor McDonald and Noddy Holder!

Here are the results from the Norwegian jury:

1.Pub - Rovers Return for tackiness alone. Plus excellent "open plan" quality lends itself to eavesdropping sub-plots etc.

2.Theme tune - Corrie theme tune - doleful and expressive, deftly straddles the pathos-humour thang

3.Male acting ability - Corrie actors, with the exception of Shane Ritchie

4.Female acting ability - Corrie actresses, with the exception of June Brown

5.Humor - Corrie. The only thing about Stenders that even comes close is the choice of background music

6.Setting - Albert Square - less didactic, more three dimensional

7.Villain- EE Trevor or Corrie Richard H - dead heat. Phil M doesn't get a look in.

8.Channel - ITV, but only for the convenient loo-breaks

9. Variation and intrest of storylines - Corrie, by a whisker. Eastenders if you'd have asked this about two years ago.

10. Best soap - Corrie, on the grounds of longevity, script, humour and characterisation
