Ruben is doing Flying Without Wings - a cover of a Westlife song (a huge Irish boyband that Simon Cowell signed, was a UK #1) and Superstar

Clay is doing This Is The Night and On The Wings Of Love (which I also assume to be the Westlife B-side)


Well I LOVE Flying Without Wings, I have to say it's one of my favourite songs ever but I still want Clay to win. I suppose it doesn't matter now as RCA are signing both singers anyway !!! The fact he's given that song to Ruben proves that he'd rather see him win than Clay... and it really gives Ruben a huge advantage

Did Justin thingy from last year release a single after American Idol though? Or is UM to be his first?


And thank God it wasn't true that the single is a cover of that crappy allSTARS* song!

UM is his first. God, I hope the radio stations shun it. On AI1 Kelly and Justin sang the same two songs for the final. I'm glad they're letting Clay and Ruben sing different songs ... they have such different voices and styles.

:yawn: Could Simon BE any more predictable? So we sit through hours of the same covers on AI as over here, and if he wins (or even if he doesn't-both are signed-Si cant resist a quick buck!) poor Ruben gets a mushy ballad that's not even an original! At least one side of Will's single was an original, as was Kelly's.

Watching it last night, I was struck with the similarities between Will and Clay. Both have effortless voices that make you relax as you watch them, both are (and I suppose I must use the word "allegedly" here about Clay) gay, and both have non confrontational personae that hides a will of steel. No wonder Si wants Ruben to win.
I'm pretty much at the stage I was with PI at the last 3, I didn't mind which of them won, but, because I think he's got a great voice,though not pop, and because I hate to see Simon get what he wants, I'm really rooting for Clay.

Who originally sang "This is the Night"? I don't know that I've heard this song before because I don't recognize it just by the title. Is it a Westlife song too?

Sorry about that, the brain wasn't in gear when I read the thread.

However you may find it's Frank Sinatra or James Ingram (1993 album tracks). Makes sense with Clay's voice imo.

The word now is that Clay will release 'Bridge over troubled water' (although amazon.com still says the songs will be This Is The Night/On The Wings Of Love) and Ruben 'Flying without wings' ON THE SAME DAY!

I think this is (a) a bit mean on Ruben who did win and should get some winner's priviledges and (b) very interesting for the record buying public. I think Clay will come out on top with this one (amazon.com did have Clay's pre-orders WAY ahead of Ruben, but Ruben's come up the chart since his win).

Actually, even though Amazon.com says June 3rd at the top of the screen, when you scroll down it says this:

"The winner of American Idol Season 2 will have his CD-single released on June 03, 2003. The runner-up will have his CD-single released on June 10, 2003."

Clive Davis, head of RCA Records, said last night that Clay would be switching his song to "Bridge Over Troubled Water" because of his performance the night before. They'll get it changed in the next week or so, I'm sure. Ruben will have one week on the charts until Clay bumps him off.

One thing to remember about Ruben's song is that even tho it is a remake of a Westlife song, most of America has never heard of it or heard of Westlife. lol. I heard the song for hte first time when Ruben sang it...and i don't really like it much.

I really like Clay's new song tho...and I'll be buying a Clay single before i buy a Ruben single.

And this is going to screw Justin over who is releasing his album soon...and i hope it does really...he's an awful singer. lol.

But Tamyra is coming in June too i think...can't wait for that CD!
