Any Dream Will Do hopeful Craig Chalmers has landed the lead role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat despite coming fifth on the TV talent hunt.

The 26-year-old Scotsman will star in the touring production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, which begins in Bromley, south London on August 20.

He will play Joseph at the same time as the show's winner Lee Mead, who begins his West End run next week.

The casting of Chalmers is expected to spark outrage among fans, because the show's host Graham Norton always said that: "There can only be one Joseph".

This is old news which is probably in the Craig Chalmers Appreciation thread.

It is a bit naughty to call him a loser - he was fifth in the contest.

There's no science to casting, only an art! If Craig managed to work up a fanbase, and impress BK as a performer and a worker, and get cast, then that's that, whether he came fifth or second!
The others who finished above him in ADWD have all got great opportunities lined up (different sorts of parts, or smaller parts, recording deals etc) which to be honest in each case I think suit them better than being 'touring Joseph' would. There are no losers in terms of gaining exposure as a performer from a series like this

I haven't heard of any outraged fans yet! It's a bit of an odd comment really!

Nor me, Ernydil. Why would anybody be outraged? I think we're all really happy for Craig. Who wrote that anyway? Someone trying to create a controversy that doesn't exist

I don't think there is any outrage from fans... well I haven't seen any

Since ADWD finished I have seen that a lot of the different Josephs' fans have become friends and are very supportive of all the Josephs no matter what they do...

As for being a 'loser' - if you mean that he lost out to 4 others (after beating off thousands of others to get that far in the competition) and has now gained a touring role, then I wouldn't mind being a 'loser' too

Well I might have to pop along to that seeing as that's where I live. It'll be fun to compare and contrast the two shows.

Well I suppose it's conceivable that fans of the contestants who came above Craig in the competition would be 'outraged'... but the ones on DS certainly don't seem to be!

Iv not heard of any outrage, I think its great Chris B is in the same show playing Benjamin and Joseph on certain nights ,Id love to see 2 of the josephs in the same show.

Joseph has been continuley touring for years and gives people who carnt get to London the opportunity to see the show, which is a good thing it takes nothing away from Lee.

Outrage? LOL! Why are they trying to stir up controversy where there is none?

The musical is rubbish no matter who performs it

Nice common sense reply

Shall we get outraged?

Outraged???? Impressed with him, touring is different to West end. Good experience for the lad good luck for him. Suprised they havent picked up that Chris B will be an alternate Joseph as well!

Ooh I wasn't going to bother with a reply to this but...you know.. lol

I laughed to see this article. Bit late aren't they? And yes tellyaddict82, Chris Barton, a fellow 'loser' on ADWD is understudying Craig on the tour in the role of Joseph too, so that make three Josephs doesn't it

And the fans of the show couldn't be more happy from what I've heard. Not everyone can afford the luxury of a trip to the West End to see THE Joseph, Lee Mead, sadly, but they will be able to take their kids along to their local theatre and be thrilled by the talent of Craig Chalmers in the role. His vocal ability has never been doubted and he has been complimented most highly by many including another 'loser' Daniel Boys (whos voice is faultless!) when he said in an interview to The Stage back in May, "...Craig has come on immensely, getting better and better and better. He may still not be ready for the West End, but his voice! Everyone has noticed that it has got better. And he’s never had lessons before!" Andrew Lloyd Webber has called his vocal performance of This Is The Moment "Phenomenal" and "brilliant!" Praise indeed

And, "despite coming fifth" Bill Kenwright, one of the biggest ever Musical Theatre impresarios, for the last 30+ years, has spotted Craigs talent as a brilliant vocalist and showman. He knows by putting Craig in the role of Joseph On Tour it will be a sell-out. Any outrage suggested by the article is purely speculative. I see no outrage for giving Joseph fans the man he knows will give people a fantastic show!

Here's Craig's Joseph On Tour site. It's still in its infancy and not quite complete yet, but definitely worth a look! Go go go Mobile Joseph !!!

Brava, Trixie!

The only outrage is in their choice of headline, which was intended to make us think that Lee was out and one of the runners-up was in. Deceptive.

I didn't even think of that! But I think that is because that article is old news to anyone who has been around the Craig thread (and any other ADWD forum!) and so I knew that Leee was still doing the WE and it was the touring show they were talking about!

well said trixie

People try to stir up trouble between the different Joseph fans but it never works as we are proud and regonise the individual talents of the others, they were after all the best 12 out of 10s of thousand hopefuls. All are winners!

I think its brilliant news for Craig & Chris, i cant see why anyone would be outraged.

Its good for anyone who wants to see the show but cant get tickets to see Lee, or cant travel to london.

The only thing im a bit annoyed about is the fact that all the articles about it mention Craig, and people seem to have forgotten/ignored the fact that Chris B is in it too. (By people i dont mean us lot..i mean anyone writing articles)

Well I for one am certainly not outraged, should I be? I must have missed that memo...

I am delighted that many of the ADWD guys are getting to live out their dreams whether they are as Joseph or any other role they land and I think Craig will be a great touring Joseph.
