If you upgraded in January, you will have renewed your contract for at least 12 months, if not the 18 they are stating, which means you will not be able to leave your contract any time soon (unless you pay off the total amount you would have paid in line rental until the end of the contract period).

The upgrade offers you are getting are probably from retailers with out of date information on your current contract status.

Very good point. I can't understand for the life of me why people think they will get accurate results quicker on a forum than if they checked the company's website.

To answer your question though - you will have to pay the outstanding balance left on your contract. And thats true across the board.

After 10 years with reasonable service from Orange I cancelled by contract because I was offered a much better deal from another phone company... then the problems started.

It took SIX MONTHS to finally end the contract!.

So, get ready for a one hour plus phone call each month to their Customer Service people.

Surely once your out of contract with whoever, you just get your bank to cancel the direct debit agreement. Tell the operator that on a specific date you will end the direct debit. If they want to make it a complicated or drawn out process then its up to them!

They will soon stop the service once they know you aint going to pay?!

I have noticed this with a broad range of questions asked on this and other forums! Perhaps people who post them think that there is a secret way of achieving the same goal as other punters do?!

I think it's because people would rather hear bad news here (anonymously) than phone a company and be embarrassed when told 'NO'.
In other circumstances its just laziness, why bother finding the manual or thinking about the website when you can post here and wait for someone to do the job for you.
I always try to help the former and find it hard not to call the latter 'numpty'.
