Hi all,
I'm looking for advice and suggestions for my first digital camera, please. I'm replacing a faithful Kodak APS camera that I've used for about 6 years but I'm fed up with the cost of films and processing compared to the cost of a digital camera especially as I already have a PC, printer, card readers, etc.
My budget really is as low as possible but without scrimping on reliability, image quality etc. I was looking at a Samsung S500 in my local ASDA for £60 but they're having supply problems but since I've read a poor review on them.
So, I guess £60 is my budget but might be able to go upto a £100 for something really special.
My main concern is image quality. How many megapixels do I really need ? I had 6 MP in my head but could I get away with less?
The photos will be viewed on a PC and laptop and then recorded to a DVD for viewing on a television, if this helps.
They are unlikely to be printed at the moment, but might be in the future.
Some photos will be resized for use as desktop wallpaper on my PC - the resolution of my current monitor is 1152 x 864.
Another concern is battery life - basically the longer the better. I appreciate that using Lithium batteries and rechargeable camera batteries would be best. What sort of battery life can I expect? If the camera has it's own charger and batteries that would be a huge bonus.
In terms of memory, ideally I would like to use SD cards rather than XD due to the cost. Support for the newer high capacity SD cards would be a bonus but by no means essential.
Ideally, I would also like some kind of anti-shake/stability feature and at least 3x optical zoom.
Many thanks in advance for any advice.
Cheers,
Steve.
