No sound on .mov files

I get only a very faint muffled soundtrack with videos from my camera when I d/l them on to my PC
works fine through TV
Works fine on my laptop and my wife's PC
But on my own PC it does not work
I tried converting to another format, same problem
I even reformatted the whole PC this afternoon
even with minimal software loaded I got the same error
Anyone suggestions? (other than a stiff drink and a sledgehammer)

What format are they in the first place? .mov isn't a format, it's just a wrapper that movies can be contained in like avi is.

When I transfer them direct from the camera they list as .mov

Do you get sound when they're played back on the camera? If not then it's the camera. If you do then it sounds like your computer doesn't have the codec to play back the video.

Saying it's a mov is like saying you own a computer, it doesn't say what make or model it is.

Try dowloading and installing this ...

... and check the file on it. Hopefully should give you a bit more info on whats actually in there.

Audio = mp4a: MPEG-4 AAC LC 48000Hz , stereo (2/0)
Video = avc1 H.264

I'm no iPod expert but given that the sound seems to be AAC, I'd have thought it should play it???

How do you transfer? USB or other means?

adam, I have tried both
using the usb and transferring from the SD card

I just find it weird that it plays on both my laptop and my wife's PC, but not mine.
