Further to Pete's post, the following info. found on 'avforums.com' gives some more detail;
*Formal Response from Sony follows!*
Was having the same problem myself so after clearing the HDD as much as possible (1 week later) i cart the drive to my nearest service centre for repair under warranty. The bloke there tells me that since my call last week, they got a bulletin (or something like that) from Sony which reads as follows (paraphrased coz it seems like a lotta effort to type it all out)
The over air download (OAD) which was scheduled somehow dowloaded the s/w for another manufacturers hardware. As a result it causes data corruption and the problem seen by customers. Complaint is likely to be:
For 3G models (RDR-GXD310, RDR-HXD510, 710) "slow" of "no response" or "hang up" when watching a channel on the affected MUX A
For 5G models (RDR-GXD360, RDR-HXD560, 760, 860, 1065) switches off and re-boots during HDD/DVD playback or when watching a channel on the affected MUX A. Also broken or interrupted or partial recordings may appear in the title list for the same program.
For 5G models new OADs to fix the problem are planned as follows:
23-->25Jul on MUX B. customers should set/tune theie product to CBEEBIES (LCN Channel Number 071)
28-->30Jul on MUX 1. customers should set/tune theie product to BBC ONE (LCN Channel Number 001)
for 3G they dont appear to have a fix yet.
As a temp fix you can disable the software download in the menus. BUT REMEMBER TO RE-ENABLE BEFORE THE ABOVE DATES FOR THE PROPER FIX TO DOWNLOAD!!
Updates take around an hour.
Quite who allowed this screw up to happen is beyond me, but hope the above is of use to someone (& thanks to the guy at the sony centre who let me walk away with a copy of the bulletin!) Please feel free to repost in other threads if it'll help someone else out!
Cheers,
Wombie.
