talking to someone at a party and they said that they could copy the music on my computer to theor ipod and vice versa. Is this true? or possible?

Yes it is,although some computers do not think much of it and get a bit grumpy.

It can be done .... in a few different ways.

But, being an iPod, it doesn't make it simple.

It can be done but if it's effectively merging two libraries then that's not how the iPod was designed to work. An iPod is supposed to literally mirror the itunes library (or playlists within that library) with which it is synced. The iPod doesn't do the work itself, it doesn't keep track of what came from where. If a track is on the iPod and not in iTunes it assumes it was deleted from iTunes, not that it was added elsewhere and needs to be synced back. It doesn't want to have to verify every change that may be made to a file to see which version needs to be be kept from which source. iTunes is deemed to be the master (and correct) copy. As long as you work within that model it's perfectly simple.
