This says to me that black women in general are not as attractive as other races, so they will organise an event especially for them. It can annoy both ways, white people can think its racist, black people can think its patronising.

There are about 1 million black people in London!

You must live in the back of beyond to really think that.”

Got any figures to support that?

Oh dear, you want to read that back and think about it a little more.

Attractive in the case of most beauty pageants = Caucasian features, assuming we're talking about the UK here.

If you're holding the pageant in, for example Ghana, then things would be different.

You should pay more attention to census results... 2% is the correct figure...

The pageant is Miss Black Britain, not Ghana

Perhaps that was what that "if" word was used for then

Perhaps I was just pointing out how irrelevant the statement was

Wow.. but such a person could have been "whiter" than some "white" people (eg Southern European)... that's really interesting

It wasn't though was it... and the "if" clearly underlined that part as an "example"

The 'example' is irrelevant as pointed out.

The thread was regarding 'miss black Britain' which has nothing to do with Ghana.

Ghana is in Africa, not a suburb of London as you clearly believe

Try reading post 229 again.

I suspect you're being deliberately obtuse now.

'This says to me that black women in general are not as attractive as other races'

Try this instead

'This says to me that black women in general are not as attractive to other races'

No wiping of backsides required.

Do you think they have Miss 'Black' beauty pageants in Ghana?

Edit: Just read your other post, forget it you're just being obtuse for the sake of it, the point is perfectly obvious.

I surely do hope your way of thinking is not that simple. No one is saying ghana is bitain. It was used as an example to highlight the fact that the features of black women and white women are very different and it's the features af white women that a lot of beuty pageants or fashion shows in this country are looking for.

"Want me to wipe your backside as well?" That question should actually be directed at you. Think more, dont play stupid.

According to official government figures, blacks make up 2.2% of the population, which amounts to about 1.3m black people. Ethnic minorities make up 9% of the total population.

No bunni I do not. Check the census figures. We make up around 2% of the population or 1.3 million.

I can't be bothered to look for figures, but

Britain has a rich diversity of minority populations. However, the figures do not show the true size of the communities, as they exclude British-born members of these groups.

and to the person who mentioned the census, most of the households I know don't even fill them out.

Tox, you don't have to answer this, but are you black/mixed race?

It's positive discimination. I do not understand why there is a need for a black women only fashion show, the same as for a white women only one. Make up features I understand as we have different skin tones and make up shades that suit different women are useful but clothes- no.

What is wrong with celebrating your culture or where you come from?. People of all different backgrounds celebrate it, why is it only an issue when its black?
