I find this to be a double standard.

Anything 'White only' would be shot down.

Dear

A CRE spokesperson said:

"Racial equality is about just that - equality for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity or religion.

It appears that this competition only allows people of black African, black Caribbean or mixed race backgrounds to apply. We can appreciate the motives behind this competition - to raise the profile of young, black women and to create positive black role models. However, in reality it actually goes some way towards creating further divisions between communities in Britain.

The only way to re-dress the balance would be to open up the competition to people from all backgrounds. The competition should be about promoting racial harmony and integration, not segregation."

Competitions do not fall under the Race Relations Act 1976 so legally there's nothing we can do to stop it from taking place.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards
Information and Assistance Officer”

I've only just noticed the reply in my in box, even though it was sent on 9th August.

Good, fair reply, I thought. At least we now know it's not covered by the Race Relations Act.

The problem with the MOBOs is that Rock and Roll can also be seen to have black origins, so why not include that either?

MOBOs is to recognise music (hip hop, RnB, reggae) that isnt included in more mainstream award shows. What is the problem with that?

Because hip-hop isn't part of mainstream culture?

I do think they reward people who wouldn't win at mainstream awards shows.

I mean, last year Beyonce won 3 awards - oh and they dropped the jazz and world music awards.

I think white people can win awards though - it's just the music that has to be 'black' ...

I don't know why people have a pronlem with the MOBO awards.

Plenty of white people have won, including Justin Timberlake and Eminem. or are they not white enough for y'all?

Except they don't give awards for rock and roll or jazz??

It's pathetic.

I'm sorry, what language are you speaking? It appears to be complete and utter bollocks. There are plenty of opportunities for black models in the fashion industry. A 'black only' fashion show is sheer double standards with significant racist connotations. It shouldn't be tolerated any more than a whites only show would be tolerated.

Since the 15th April 2007:

Timbaland has been at number one in the singles' chart for five weeks with two different tracks. Kanye West and Sean Kingston have been at number one for two weeks each. Beyonce has been number one for three weeks and Rihanna ten weeks.

In between that, McFly and Robyn have been number one for just one week each.

There is no further need for a MOBO awards now (even if there is white representation), as popular commercial music in Britain is now undeniably from black artists, which has done away with the minority issue. That doesn't bother me in the slightest - but the fact that British acts have now conceded to American-based acts does bother me.

Yeah, there must be about half a dozen black models featured in October's Vogue...maybe even 7 if you count Jamelia in the Toni&Guy ad.

Forgive me if I don't count the number of white models. I really don't have the several days to spare that it would take to count them all.

Im a model and was asked to enter miss black uk! This pageant then gives the finalist a chance to enter miss the miss England pageant to represent us in miss world!
As a young mixedrace model i have trouble getting work and have even been told by photographers that black models dont sell products and that white is more desirable! Wether this is true i dont know but im sick of people labeling things like the mobo awards or miss black beauty "racist" thats just stupid! Black or girls of other ethnic minoritied dont really get a look in at the big pageants like miss England so why cant they hold their own pageants so that we can have a chance too? Next black history month will be a racist thing too! Miss England is a predomantly white pageant so it doesnt need to be called miss white uk because they are not the minority!
