It’s great to see so many new people joining the forum and/or ‘de-lurking’, even after the show has ended. I thought it might be useful to have a thread which gives a few pointers to help any new members to find their way around and settle into ‘forum life’. You’ll find this is a very friendly place and all fans of ADWD are welcome

Other members, please post any useful advice you may have on this thread. The only thing I ask is that all comments on here are positive!

Thanks
Eryndil

You will see a lot of abbreviations on this forum as they save time when typing. Some of them are in general use on the internet while others are specific to this forum. I have listed those that I can remember at the moment. I am sure that other members will think of some more, please post here if you do.

ADWD – Any Dream Will Do
ALW – Andrew Lloyd Webber
BK – Bill Kenwright
BRB – Be Right Back
DS – Digital Spy
DVO – Denise Van Outen
FM – Forum Member
IMO/IMHO – In My Opinion/In My Humble Opinion
JB – John Barrowman
LMAO – Laughing My A**e Off
OP – Original Poster (i.e. the person who started a thread)
PMSL – P*****g Myself Laughing
TMI – Too Much Information
VT – Video Tape
YT – Youtube
ZT – Zoe Tyler

Song titles and forum members’ names are sometimes abbreviated as well.

There are also a few terms that you may find on here:

Angels – Ben’s fans
Kittens - Daniel's fans
LoveLees – Lee’s fans
Mobile Joseph/McJoseph – Craig

If you see any others that you aren’t sure about, someone will always be happy to explain them.

There are appreciation threads for many of the Josephs, where the fans can show their support/appreciation/love/lust (depending on the thread!) for their favourite.

Fans often visit each other’s appreciation threads for a bit of light hearted chat or discussion. However, it’s not good manners to post negative comments about one of the Josephs (or his fans) in his own appreciation thread. If you feel a need to make that type of comment, it’s best to do it in your ‘home’ appreciation thread or a neutral thread.

Be aware that other fans may read any insulting comments you post in your appreciation thread and may find them offensive. Also remember that the forum rules do not allow offensive posts and some people have been banned for this in the past.

Some of the threads indulge in a fair bit of teasing and mock insults but others don’t welcome it as much. It’s probably best to look at the previous posts to get an idea of the general character of the thread before posting (especially if it’s the first time). All the threads are happy to welcome any fan who wants to have a friendly and polite conversation so enjoy posting.

Thanks for this Eryn.

I have a pet hate and maybe this is the place to bring it up.

LOL. How many people, when they write LOL have actually just laughed out loud? I think we should have an abreviation LOTI - laughing on the inside What do you think?

There. I've said it. That was cathartic.

Don't worry guys - keep LOL-ing. I'll cope.

NYNY = New York New York
LOAP = living on a prayer
DID = devil in disguise
OWAC = o what a circus
UP = under pressure

can't think of anymore right at this second

Shouldn't you mention LMAO? I've never laughed mine off yet!! Or wet meself when I've typed PMSL, thankfully Nor do I 'roll on the floor laughing' in the literal sense when I type ROFL. These abbreviations are simply to set the tone of a post and are used in forums absolutely everywhere.

Yeah, I know. I'm mostly kidding. I suppose it is just because LOL sounds literal, whereas the others are quite clearly metaphor (well, I hope so with PMSL )

That's good. You're probaly more expressive than most. It reminds me of a time when I was in the studio audience for Mock The Week. During the warm up Dara O Briain said (cue Irish accent) "If you're one of those people who laughs on the inside...then you're no ****in' use to us!"
Sorry, back on topic!

That's weird. I just tried to use the Father Ted type euphemism for the f word and it wouldn't let me. Cool! I wasn't sure whether to use it anyway.

Oh I think I'm generally a lough out loud-er. Not great when you're on the aeroplane laughing loudly at what you can hear in the headphones

For those who don't know - OH is 'Other Half' ie the ones who tolerate us rabbiting on about ADWD, chatting on the forums, trying to buy tickets for all sorts of things, incessantly humming the 'Joseph' score etc!

If we're being literal i want one for 'spat my coffe over my keyboard' SMCOMK, or 'just inhaled glass of wine' JIGOW, the lee thread can be a very dangerous place

*writes down the acronyms for future use*

Regular readers of the Lee (and also Ben) threads will know I do this on a frequent basis......Also soup, tea, water, lunch...... I would add the word 'uncomfortable' to dangerous...inhalation of coffee whilst laughing is not pleasant!

I can imagine its not, from personal experience i would not recomend flushing your sinuses though with red wine, while laughing either.

Perhaps we should include a warning on here to anyone thinking of visiting the Lee thread! 'Beware of snorting various beverages into respiratory system.' Maybe also add an age rating (is 18 strong enough?)
