Live E4 Personal Streaming.

Yo - I have sucessfully tested streaming E4 using a piece of software called Teveo and a TV tuner card (from Hauppauge), by sending my E4 signal from home (a 512k/128k ADSL connection) to work (a 2mb leased line) and it looks mighty fine.
No sound, but when all they do is play the sound of trains and planes all day, whats the point.

However, are there any legal implications to doing this?
Afterall, I am not going to publish the address of my server so it is only going to be available to me and a select few fans in my office, I subscribe to E4 via my Satellite Dish, and being that E4 is no longer available on 'Digital Testicle', I can't see it being a problem...

Although...

'Technically' does my TV licence cover this?
And...
I guess one is not really supposed to re-broadcast programmes, just like VHS + DVD?

Not that I really care anyway, but just wondered what the legal standpoint is!

It is technically illigal, you are re broadcasting it.

In theory yes(could be argued you are broadcasting (test case please)). However if the situation is how you describe it, no one will bother with this rather nifty (if a little sad) BB solution.

Why no sound?

So... Technically these wireless tv senders are illegal.

And at the end of the day, there's no-one gonna be at home watching it so Channel4 arn't really losing any subscribers...

Teveo (the standard version at least) doesn't support sound as far as I can see. I could use Netmeeting, but find it a little tempremental.

Also, compared to the quality of previous years streaming quality from Channel 4, my solution is far more superior

(but kiddies, its illegal, so don't try this at home!).

oh come on !
you pay for the channel, you're just re-routing it to your place of work.....

it is no different that having an extremely long cable from your dish , to your pc at work.
Don't get stressed.

We're not talking about you hosting the feed online, and then selling the stream for money are we. You're a ordinary person who just is going to watch the feed in a somewhat very unique manner.
Enjoy the show. Diablo.

Digital.Diablo - During FA I did this - I rebroadcast the Digital Stream - since it was only available on Sky

If you look around for a piece of software called - Windows Media Encoder - yuo can set it to encode and broadcast the signal - that includes sound and picture

you then connect to it from a browser or media player with the format:

mms://<server>/<filename and path>

"Watch" being the operative word for a feed with no sound on it, which I would assume makes it about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

The law states that as long as it's for personal use, it's ok.

right heres the info:

you can get yourself a copy of Windows Media Encoder for FREE at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.aspx

and a typical link would be summat like:

mms://127.0.0.1:8080/non_working_example.asx

obviously 127.0.0.1 is the address used to connect to your own computer - ud replace this with your computers IP address

I had a little experiment with this last night - it looked quite good over my home LAN, but as my TV card is USB, it wasn't picking up the sound input properly. I loaded the latest correct drivers, and then by that time I had to leave to go see the other big event of this year - Matrix ReLoaded.

But looks promising - just hope it doesn't break up (thats one advantage with Teveo in that it effectivly takes a screengrab every 10th of a second or something, then its upto the network and the viewing PC to load the frames as fast as they can, rather than being a true streaming service!).

You've had more luck than me - mine doesnt appear to like my tv card - I've never tried streaming video before - coz i'm on a paltry 56k - I was only streaming sound last year - anyways it pops up and tells me that "Device not connected" when it is - coz it sez signal detected 1

bloody useless thing!!

Hope you can get it to work - i assume u have sky connected to the tv box - if so you can try connecting a Y audio cable to your sky box - I did this last year

The 2 phono ends plug into the back of the sky box - and the 3.5mm stereo jack plugs into the Line In socket on your soundcard

Yeah, my TV tuner card is setup as COAX in (for some reason, the drivers don't always like working thru the A/V) from the secondary output on the Sky Box.

Its worked OK over my Wireless LAN using netmeeting so I can watch the telly whilst I'm 'moving my bowels' from my mediaserver to my laptop, its just this sound problem.

Hopefully the driver updates will fix it when I get home + try it tonight!

Anybody else doing anything silly to be able to watch BB4 during the day for these coming 9 weeks?

Do you have the wire from the TV cart to the sound card correctly setup?

Indeed - I think the reason behind this 'fault' is that the driver comes in two flavors, one that sends the sound thru the USB and one that sends it thru the audio in/out.

I had loaded the former, and I think I need to use the latter.

Do you mind me asking what USB capture card you have? I assumed most USB jobbies had the audio lead for the sound.
