Want an @live.co.uk address, hurry up then!

Hi everyone,

There's a workaround for an @live.co.uk, if you're lucky, an @live.com address as well, so, here's how:
  1. Go to www.hotmail.com, click on Sign up, and choose a free account, as before.
  2. Now, you will be taken to a signup page that shows an @hotmail.com or @hotmail.co.uk domain for your email address.
  3. Go to the address bar, make hmnewuser.aspx read newuser.aspx and look along until you see &hm=1, after removing that hit enter.
  4. Your @hotmail magically becomes @live.
Done!

Excellent. Works a treat!

Point 3 could be a touch clearer in that saying that you need specifically remove &hm1 and not anything else, but I'm just being pedantic.

Finally, I don't agree with littlehope's practise of creating addresses that you a) don't need b) not yours to use c) to 'give away'.

I agree with injured what is the point in creating emails addresses that you dont need and are not going to use.

Surley it would have been better to post the final URL like this instead of instructions!!

p.s. There was instructions posted nearly a year ago with a hack to obtain any @live.?? address, I managed to get onelife@live.it which I think is quite cool!!

The reason I didn't post the link is because sometimes it fails to load, and loads the get.live.com site.
And the instructions posted a year ago also worked, but only for a couple of days.

The potential choice of an E Mail address that you really want, but which wasn't available on all the other Free E Mail services you tried?

Yeah but what's so special about an @live address compared to any other email address?

Erm... i got mine about 6 months ago - i've got my initials - two letters @ live.co.uk

As well as having many famous names @ live.co.uk

The live.co.uk addresses allow you to log into Xbox 360 online, as well as MSN Messenger etc. Just a new address because they are changing the names of everything soon, so you've more chance of getting a good address than the 30 million hotmail users.

Great but how do you get a @live.com address rather than a live.co.uk address?

Oh well I signed up two accounts anyway, one with my real name and one with my alias. Luckily for me I got a gmail account early so I was quick enough to get an email address with my real name and no other characters, so I do see your point.

Any way to make it work with Outlook Express? I currently use OE to access my Hotmail. However, Hotmail no longer allow new addresses to be used with OE. Is there a work around, or is it possible to set up Email Forwarding on my new address?
