Up until 2 or 3 months ago, I was keeping an eye (or maybe an ear) on Jonny's activities on Durham based radio station tfm. At the last count his contract was up for renewal. I was unable to continue listening because of a 'path' problem with their site.
Because of conflicts with Boogie Nights he wasn't on air for 5 weeks out of 6 and for the sixth he was only on the phone from a hotel. There was then a period when BN was in the NE so there shouldn't have been any problem then but I think there still was. Add my opinion that he was, at best, average as a DJ, and my instinct said Jonny's contract on tfm was unlikely to be renewed.
I managed to track down the official BN site and found out one or two things. As well as the winter break (allowing for pantomimes), there is a summer break as well, from early/mid May to late July. Until I realised this, I couldn't understand how he was going to be on RI:SE for a week.
I can also add that Sam Kane (who had the BN lead) was being replaced by somebody I'd never heard of, but Jonny was still named and therefore presumably continuing. I think I saw Sam had got a new job, maybe Carousel in the West End. I think he's actually a decent singer, but probably not rivalling Howard Keel.
Back on topic, I managed to get back onto tfm 3 or 4 weeks ago. I couldn't listen to a whole programme due to a weak digestive system. I did hear Anna say to him "Well you're a professional now, all the top bosses will be listening". I can only conclude that tfm have resigned their 'star' turn, much to my surprise.
I've listened to a small part each week since without hearing much of interest. The exception was the Saturday after Fed's Newcastle speech. It started by Jonny saying that Alison had rung him to tell him about Alex' comments in Now.
"Have you seen what that ****ing **** has said about you. I'm going to get hold of that scrawny little **** and break his ****ing head off" or words of approximately equal elegance and finesse.
Jonny then went into diplomat (or should that be hypocrite) mode and said that he thought any differences should have been buried months and months ago. He then carried on slagging off Alex.
When they eventually got round to spending a minute on BB4 they weren't too complimentary. They talked about a few hms and events but the key statement came from Anna. Fed was a Tommy Tanker. Jonny unhesitatingly agreed.
As BB commentators, I've listened to Kate both on Capital and RI:SE, Alex on LBC and now Jonny on tfm. Jonny really is in a class of his own imo, if only for the unintended comedy. I wonder what the Rev W.V Awdrey would have made of the comments.
