I'm not too bothered about the phone now anyway, as it does not have a lot of features that I want on a phone.

Also I'm wondering if the ones on Ebay are not locked to AT&T, as I've checked the feedback on some of the people selling iPhones and they say that they are working ok in the UK (I thought they would have complained on the feedback if it did not)?

I guess the US is like the UK where you can either buy phones on contract or SIM free?

No, the iPhone is exclusive to AT&T for five years - it won't work on any other network and people have not been able to hack it yet.

You can activate it and thus use WiFi and iPod functions but any software update from Apple is likely to break the hack.

apple have not followed the usual mobile phone system. the iphone is not subsidised. you can buy it without a contract but it won't work.

Ok - cheers.

I just thought that they worked in the UK seeing that the people selling the iPhones on Ebay did not say anything about it not working in the UK + selling to the UK and then the people buying them not reporting that they did not work in the UK when they got them.

Cheers, Mark.

he hasnt just made a page about it, he gets a lots of hits cos he's kind of a social commentator.

anyway, what makes you think he's jealous? A) he is a grown up and b) its only a phone with an ipod - WOW! all an ipod is is a hard drive with some shiny plastic around it and a button. I dont think the world quite appreciates just how much apple are literally lighting their cigarettes with $100 bills every 30 seconds after the whole ipod hype machine. I would'nt care but creative had an "ipod" out a good two years before apple, yet no one took notice as it wasnt made out to be such a fashion accessory that would complete your life.

when you think about it, it uses a few cheap parts, its actual style /design is the pinnacle of simplicity and it has a little bit of software on it. it comes in a flat pack cardboard and its earphones are average at best. that an abysmal failure rate for the first two years, my mate got to a point where it only ran for 30 mins on full battery, and then was quoted £80+ just to get a new battery fitted. there are a hundred devices that do it better, its just because the companies behind them dont have the revenue like them to promote it.

i was thinking this morning, i must of bought about 150 songs off itunes in the past couple of years. what has pissed me off is the quality of a song today which i paid for, which is substandard mp3. When you download off itunes mp3's should be at least 192kbps, i dont care about the file size - if im paying for a track i dont want to hear the (in this case drastic) effects of compression. Im no massive audiophile but i can tell when apple just really havent done their jobs properly, and considering you can only download it once, not play it on anything other than itunes, i think they should pull their fingers out, but do you think they will

will they ****.

from the posted pics on macrumors.com the camera produces some pretty good results (quality isn't all about the amount of pixels on the sensor). shame about no gps. there's rubbish 3g coverage in america so it seems a better move to have edge in the american iphone. i hope the version sold in england with have 3g.

i've only bought two albums as compressed files...this was because the albums were not available CD. i must say i've never been tempted to buy music from the itunes store because i'd rather have an uncompressed version on cd. quite like the idea of buying music videos from itunes though.

on features alone, why would anyone buy one? But Apple's brand loyalty is such that they could sell toilet paper and people would fly across continents to buy it.

Grown up? The page looks like it was created by a 13 year old and has the content to match. EVERYBODY knows the iPhone isn't the most fully featured phone in the world but what it does do it does well, as anyone who has read the numerous reviews would know.

Read halfway down here to see him address that very point and he also mentions another fairly well known and moderately successful site which is equally basic.

It's called GOOGLE.

Google's layout is to keep pages clear to read and fast loading, that guys reasons are because he's too cheap to pay for bandwidth and that he's got a chip on his shoulder about the iPhone.

Not quite the same thing.

Who cares about the reason behind it? The comment was made that the site layout is basic, I pointed out another.

And he has a chip on his shoulder about a great many things - and is very entertaining about it. The only people who moan about Maddox are usually the people who he's having a pop at.

So which one are you?

I don't know, I barely skipped through it before moving on. My time is precious.

the fact that you don't get apple products and find geri halliwell really good looking are not unconnected. no taste

Every review has stated that it is a huge shift for mobiles and a leader of the pack.

Face it. they sold 270,000 in 30 hours, just in the US - that is five every minute.

inital demand will drop but they will sell over a million before Christmas and I predict will easily hit 10 million by the end of 2008 - a huge success for what is a start up phone company. It sold more in the first 30 hours than any other phone has ever sold in its first full month on AT&T. The iPhone has made a great start with 90% showing they are very satsified with the device.

Yes, until the battery goes after a few hundred charges and they have to shell out to Apple for another one. Again and again. Still, if someone wants to be enough of a doofus to do that, fine.

Same with any other phone - batteries will always die in the end although I agree it is a nuisance that Apple have to replace it. However my iPod is now two and a half years old and still holds an excellent charge. You will also find that most people don't keep a mobile more than two years at most anyway making the battery issue a little moot for the iPhone or any other mobile.

This isn't about ipods, it's about mobile phones, in particular the iphone. You seem happy to have to spend money on something which my own phone (the iphone-beating Nokia N95) won't have to have done.

Nokia - ergh - brick with many features that are difficult to use because of the poor mobile interface.

So your Nokia has a super, never lose charge battery? It has everything to do with iPods as the iPhone uses a similar battery, albeit a stronger one.

Your Nokia will have to have a new battery at some point as will any other device that uses batteries. I already said it is a pain to have to send it back to Apple. However you will have to buy a new battery for your Nokia at some point. But I bet that you, like 90% of all other mobile users, will replace their handset long before the battery dies.
