There is no extra battery and you cannot replace it ($80US & a send to Apple) You cannot transfer contacts from your old phone even if you have a SIM chip. Took us several hours to copy by hand all contact data. MP3 ringtones are out. Bluetooth is useless for both picture sending and stereo headphones. No GPS. No MicroSD card = no external memory. No video capability on the camera. Cannot transfer music/video outside of synch with iTunes = without license you may have to recollect your music .99/song at a time. No service in Japan. Service provider (ATT) offers no handset insurance for this expensive smartphone. You drop it, you buy another! It is very pretty however

Well I don't know anyone that stores their contacts on the SIM - you just sync with Outlook or Address Book and there are all your contacts on the iPhone - takes 10 seconds. I do that with my SE K800 and my Mac.

iPhone updates will sort out bluetooth issue although how many times you may transfer a picture by Bluetooth makes the issue not really that important.

The iPhone has 32 to 128 X more onboard memory than any other phone out there - Memory card usage is not really an issue.

Syncing with iTunes, which has sold over 3 billion songs, is what makes the thing easy and simple to use.

Handset insurance is one of the biggest rip offs going when your home insurance will cover it for peanuts if it doesn't already.

Best you could do?

I don't use Outlook and all my contacts are on my SIM so I can swap phones easily.

I use bluetooth a lot - I suspect many others do too. And 'iPhone updates - it remains to be seen if a company which has never produced a mobile phone before can bring out any workable updates.

.

Transfering memory from one device to another is still helpful and handy.

The thing is, many of use think itunes blows arse and don't want to be tied to Apple's restricted use of downloaded music.

Many household insurances policies don't adequately cover smartphones. Normal handsets maybe, but not handsets like the iphone.

You'll find household insurance will cover personal items with a limit usually £1000 - more than enough.

As the iPhone runs OS X it is easy for Apple to push out updates. Apple TV is an example that had a major update adding new features recently - software update run and within a few minutes update applied and away you go.

The iPhone has already received its first update - via iTunes - a far simpler way of updating than any other phone available.

Right, only I didn't say it wouldn't cover the iphone.

And do the updates work on a phone? You don't know and neither does anyone else as Apple have never produced one before.

A major, significant update? Like the type needed to make the brick marketable in the UK?

The update was to fix some security vulnerabilties in the browser

Why was it "a far simpler way of updating than any other phone available"? It uses a computer based program for updating the phone by the user ... most other manufacturers do the same aswell, please don;t tell me that just because it may in integrated into iTunes makes it "far simpler".

LOL i know.

I was just gonna ask the same.

Nokia software updater - plug in phone, open program, install any updates.

SE updater- basically the same as above,

I cant think of anything more simple lol

yes, talizman...i think we get it. your phone is really really good. anyone who bought an iphone is preference is a "doofus". you are indeed superior to the hundreds of thousands of fools who have bought the iphone. they should really spend more time comparing specs. and consulting you. they should adopt your spec requirements and buy accordingly.

you should spend some time with neo who thinks osx is a mess.

oh dear oh dear....

Why is it apple fans cannot stand the fact that someone doesn't like their pet products?

And no its not just for me, but bringing my opinions in a childish manner into an disagreement is what i have a gripe with.

Hit the nail right on the head. I'm sure the iPhone will be useful to some people, I can't don't understand all the hype about it being so 'revolutionary' etc.

*adopts fake scouse accent

Eh eh eh, caaaaaalm down

I've never suggested I'm superior in any way to anyone else, or consider myself any kind of expert, I'm just responding to the hype from the fans of an unproven handset from an unproven company in the market.

what i don't like is the constant sniping against apple products. i use apple computers but i don't spend my time putting down other manufacturers and operating systems. some people seem to have an irrational hatred of all things apple.

it's just a phone. suitable for some and unsuitable for others. but i really don't think all those who have bought them are foolish. they like it. it works out for them.

The reason behind this is simple.

Mac users always seem to think they are something special and that they are much superior to windows users because their macs dont get viruses and the myth that they don't crash etc etc

Now the harsh reality is if all this was true then apple macs would be more mainstream, used by more people and take the lead over windows.

Same applies here to the iphone. Apple have brought out their first attempt at a phone and now the apple fans think that this thing is better than anything out there which makes me laugh. They think its a revolution which it isn't. Far from it in fact.

Its been publicly tested in a small market so far on one carrier. Im willing to bet that when it comes here it wont be very popular whatsoever.

A watered down market too, when you consider how far behind the rest of the world america is when it comes to mobile technology.

well i don't know what other mac users experiences have been, but neither my ibook not my imac have ever had a virus or crashed (my previous ibook with os9 did crash). i must say i do like that fact. so in my experience it's not a myth with os10.

as for the iphone, naturally it appeals to mac users because of it's interface. it clearly lacks a lot of features present in other phones, so it's not for everyone.

i wouldn't call america a small market, but i would agree with you that if they brought it over here as it is it won't be very popular. because it would be GPRS. but we'll have to wait and see what gets sold here.

Indeed and also i expect when the iphone comes out here it will be bigger and heavier due to all the new stuff that will be needed for 3G, HSDPA etc..

and that's why it's unfair to judge the iphone by our standards. they haven't got a decent 3g network there so they had to use EDGE.

i hope there will be a different model for this market because GPRS is not going to a very popular choice here.

yeah, apparently its pretty tight as it is inside the iphone. no doubt apple are hoping for more compact 3g chips. or will they sell it here as it is? that would be a mistake but might happen.

Depends how often you use it i would imagine.

Reason i call it a myth is i had a mac running 10.2 and it crashed more than my XP machine that was running nearly 24/7.

Also the fact i have NEVER had a virus means the mac will not appeal to me therefore is nothing special.

Agreed only i still think the OSX interface is, well, tacky at best. Dunno why lol personal preference i think at the end of the day.

Well it is a small market considering the many more countries that use mobiles lol

Aye that would be a huge mistake so unless the chips get smaller within the next few months i think were gonna see a bigger and heavier phone.

i use my ibook all day long and have never had any problems. i can only vouch for 10.4. as i say, my previous ibook with os9 crashed.

i started buying macs for the external looks. i didn't know anything about operating systems at the time. but i must say i do really like osx. although i had a look at vista recently and like the ui (although a little too familiar ).

i'd use either system. and when i used to work i used windows all day.

My Nokia N95 is a hugely better than the iphone, End of story...!....and most the other phones mentioned in this thread come to think of it. Anyone iphone user who thinks differently is a definite fanboy in my opinion
