How can New Order possibly carry on without Hooky's basslines? They are an essential part of their sound.

They should quit now while they can still do so with some dignity...

Hooky is wanting to start another group, might be interesting! Hooky is an important part of New Order so what will they sound like without him?

Edit: Hooky myspace page still has him as a current memberof New Order!

As great a bass player he is, I think they could do alright without his distinctive sound. I get the impression that Barney Sumner and Steve Morris were the ones who had the most to do with the technology element of it from their early eighties work so presuming they continue to work together, I wouldn't be surprised if they moved away from the more rock orientated sound they've used more recently.

New Order without Hooky would be like Joy Division without Ian Curtis.

New Order were at their best around 20 years ago. From an earlier post in this thread, I would like to see them go back to exploring the electronic side of their music, which could prove fruitful. Slowly but surely, electronic sound is coming back in; and often the New Order tracks which were reliant on Hooky's basslines were my less favourite ones anyway.

Great bass player, no doubt, but I love their past work with synths.

It was usually the synths that covered the 'lower end' of the sound anyway as Hooky plays the bass like a guitar. I think their more electronic work is arguably more influential anyway.

absolutely - and New Order would be a bit like Joy Division without Ian Curtis... um.

they've always been a favourite of mine, but i've always much preferred power, corruption and lies and lowlife to anything else.

and they have become more and more like your naff uncle at a wedding (thinking glastonbury 05 here) - but i'm still glad to hear there might be another NO record, as it just wouldn't be the same without them.

knowing them, Hookie'll be back anyway - it's not like they haven't had their ups and downs over the years.
