A lot of people on here seem really negative and dismissive about lower end LCD televisions. I bought a Bush 32" HC LCD TV for £400 from argos a while back and I couldnt be more pleased with it! Its a really well put togeather set, good to use, well thought out cable access and controls, and fine picure quality. Ive not seen anything about it that would suggest its a cheap (uh, well for that kind of tv) set. The only noticable bad thing I can think of is the blacks arent very good, but then its to be expected on a low end LCD.

Onto the second part of my rant, just today I realised id get a better DVD picture if I watched films on my xbox 360 instead of the dvd player. I know, im pretty slow. For ages ive been annoyed that I couldnt watch films as sharply as I have videogames on the tv... dont ask. Anyway, after FINALLY realising this I spent the evening watching films in much higher quality than im used to. In fact, the picture was so good I dont see why youd want anything better really. I hear a lot about HD DVD and Blu-Ray (Sony. Hiss. :P) competing to be the next big thing, but normal dvds still have excellent picture quality, and are bloody cheap.

So I dont understand the big deal thats being made about the new HD media formats. Surely that many people cant have televisions that are so big they require that level of detail. As I mentioned above, my tellys 32", which to me is pretty big (bought on a wonderfil whim!), and watching films on the xbox today it was as sharp as youd need to get really.

Could it just be that people's old dvd players with scart leads cant put a good picture onto the tv, or are there just that many people with colossal wall spanning tellys? Or is it just a case of sheep people going "something else i must buy? ok!".

Rant over. I hope it wasnt too skittish as tends to happen when I write long pieces without drafting. Or thinking :P

I understand exactly what you're saying! I have a Playstation 3, and since using that to watch normal dvd's through the HDMI lead, yes, the picture looks a bit better than it did from my old dvd player through a scart lead. I'm watching on a 37" lcd, and mainly out of curiosity I bought Stealth on blu ray - a film that I already have on dvd - to do a proper comparison. The results surprised me in that it wasn't so much the sharpness that's better on blu-ray, although it is better, but the fact that the colours were so much more vivid on blu ray.
So I would say Blu Ray's are definately better, but the size of screen you're watching on dictates by how much. Your eyes can only see so much! I'm quietly impressed by blu ray, rather than being blown away by it, as Sony would have you believe. Maybe if I had a huge telly I would be more impressed!

What are you basis for comparing tv's from a low end to a high end tv...? and as for people having massive tv's well one of the most popular sizes now is 40" so that extra level of detail does help when put into the average size living room..!

Why have a Home theatre room if you don't intend on putting a big ass Flat screen in it.

32"just wouldn't be big enough. I know in this country not many people have HT rooms as such, houses are too small but hey thats why they convert there lounge/living room.

Its what you get use to, ATM we have a 42"plasma & you get use to the size but when we go back to Oz we will be putting in a 50"+ 1080p into our HT room for sure.

Our living room is quite small. We have a LG 37" LCD TV and it's just the right size. Would never go back to our old 28" CRT!

I had a flat screen 4:3 21" CRT before my current 32" LCD. I used to watch widescreen output from the Sky box in letterbox mode, to see the full picture, and I was more than happy with that. In fact the freeview box in the bedroom is connected to a 14" CRT and thats in letterbox mode! Now, my living room is pretty small, and we sit maybe 2 or 2.5 metres away from the TV. After 8ish weeks of ownership, the 32" LCD just doesn't look big enough any more...
